| | Ack! My car is overheating. As in, I didn't know the temperature dial went THAT high......
I need good-car vibes that it's something simple like coolant or oil!

| | Um. I'm not sure vibes will help with what sounds like a cracked engine block or busted radiator, but I'm happy to send them anyway. Meanwhile, once the car has cooled off open the radiator cap and see if it needs water. Fill it, then look again in a day or so (again while cool). If it is down, toss tobacco leaf or black pepper in your radiator for a quick fix to buy a week or so. Then shop junk yards. if it isn't the radiator, it's the engine block. |

| | Oh yes, I know all about cooled-off radiators. I got to witness the aftermath after my Dad did NOT let a radiator cool off.......
Tobacco leaf or black pepper?! What an odd fix!

| | If your radiator has a small leak, loose tobacco leaf from cigarettes will cling to the hole(s), plug them and offer a temporary fix. Same with black pepper. I have no idea how it works, only that it does. Also that it doesn't work for long.

Brain hork.
You can watch it with a glass of water, though. |

| | Could something wrong with the AC system cause it to overheat? (It's almost cool enough to check the radiator.) The AC was acting up first.

| | ROFL - I just found a suggestion for a raw egg in the radiator to plug leaks, too!

| | sounds like what happened to my 85 mini van. The dealer wanted $600 but my husband told him to replace hoses (still $150) but it worked and is still working. I'd driven it like that until it stopped and wouldn't go anymore (along with the smell and smoke accompaniment.) |

| | bars leaks is good too, bottle of gunk from the auto store. If the engine was overheating, the a/c might have been further straining it or the a/c might have had a harder time working right because of the engine heat, so the a/c might have been a sign of overheating instead of the a/c being a problem leading to overheating. (hope that ramble made sense)

| | My car overheated on the Golden Gate Bridge. It was bad wiring from the A/C. Once that was fixed I didn't have any problems. I'm not saying that is your problem but apparently other systems can make your car overheat.
I'm sending easy, cheap fix prayers your way.
I'd I like some myself, too. Something about the diesel turbo thingy.

| | Ooo - thingies are always bad.
And yes, MJ, you made perfect sense - because that's exactly what I'm wondering myself! A chicken/egg sort of thing.

| | I'm just trying to picture Melanie going into a Kwik Shop and buying a pack of Marlboros.
Can't do it.

| | I have a friend who manages a tobacco store, so I could get him to slip me some.
But, it's not needed after all! Busted upper radiator hose, $63, hour and a half, and I'm back on the road again!

| | Yay!!
It was actually rather amusing to think of you dressed in a trenchcoat, sunglasses and slouch hat, sauntering into the closest convenience store and whispering "I'd like a pack of smokes, please"

So glad your fix was under $100. We are thinking ours just maybe the air filter. Keep fingers crossed.
