A tornado in NEW YORK?

I'm presuming all our NY'ers are okay, or you would have been complaining today!

Storms kill one, disrupt travel around New York City - CNN.com

NBC news is saying that a F2 tornado hit!

Re A tornado in NEW YORK?

I know... IN BROOKLYN!

We had storms with mad winds in the afternoon (which led to the blow-drying which led to the escape) but yikes!

Re A tornado in NEW YORK?

We had a tornado on Long Island in the last storm (somewhere in Suffolk County), and another one on Long Island (Lynbrook) a couple years ago. Brooklyn's not far away from Lynbrook. (not just in spelling!)

I figured there was no point in complaining that my 45-minute train ride became a 2-hour train ride, or that my afternoon train was combined with another train to make for twice the people but the same number of seats.

Re A tornado in NEW YORK?

It was a pretty bad day all around the city.

The Long Island Expressway was a river. I could not believe my eyes when I looked over from the service road and saw water coursing down the highway above the level of the median. And there were cars underneath. I could tell because I saw their antennas sticking up over the water.

Re A tornado in NEW YORK?

Where was I?

90 minutes away by train and a world away I guess. I didn't even hear it on the news! (or maybe I wasn't paying attention while the news was on...)

Re A tornado in NEW YORK?

This is the second tornado to hit Long Island in a few weeks. One hit a mile or two away from my brother's house in East Islip right before I visited NY.

In my 40 years of living in NY, I don't think I ever saw a tornado (although I saw one travel over my swimming pool in St. Louis--didn't touch down for another five miles, thankfully.)
