| | I have lots and lots of books. I hate to get rid of them, but I need to. I called the local used bookstore - they only want classics, biographies and recent hard covers.
I can't find a local place to donate. I have tons of paperback fiction - mostly popular stuff from recent years. I don't want to be bothered with Ebay. Anyone know where I can sell or donate them without spending a fortune in shipping?
If any of you want some good novels, I have some.
I need to keep my favorites, but I still have tons that must go. |

| | Did you call libraries? Try literacy programs too, hospitals, Medicaid clinics, jails... any place people have to sit and wait is a potential.
There's one or two LIRR stations that have a paperback library tucked in a waiting room corner for commuters with times on their hands!

| | Ditto to all of the suggestions above. Also, just putting them in a box marked "Free" and putting the box somewhere where there is pedestrian traffic.
Also, the Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc. They usually have drop-off boxes scattered around, or you can drop them off at the stores, or sometimes they will come and pick stuff up.
Also -- what's that thing called where you can join a local yahoo group and list stuff that you want to give away (and get stuff that you want)? Is that freecycle? |

| | Freecycle. I also put mine out on the front walk all the time with a 'Free' sign. People almost always take them.

| | I have also dropped off boxes of books at Good Will and the Salvation Army, and they've never been refused. Our local churches will have fairs and bazaars where they have white elephant sales and book sales as well.
Since you obviously like to read, I think it might be good to go through the stacks first and cull out the ones that the used bookstores would take so that you'll have some credit for new ones. |

| | thanks everyone!
Great ideas. Nursing homes and hospitals might take them. It's sad to give away books, but I want them to have good homes! |
