Cause mine went out last night. Gas company came out and looked at it, that guy thinks it's the thermocouple, but he didn't have any parts. Told me to call Sears because it's a Kenmore, and it's new enough that the parts should be under warranty. So I did. Any guesses on when the next available appointment with Sears might be?
Try the 29th. 
Yes, I laughed in the poor woman's ear. 2 weeks and a day?! Even in summer you've got to have hot water!
Called a repair place I've dealt with before, they'll be out in the morning.
Two weeks?!

That is insane Melanie. You might have gotten away cheaper. About 15 years ago we had a Kenmore stove, that kept beeping. It was under warranty but I still had to pay the "service call" which back then was somewhere around $70. I am sure it is more now.
I remember that coil thing going in our water heater. The part itself wasn't too expensive and my hubby was able to replace it. The sad thing for us was that it was too late for the water heater.

Of course, the cynic in me wonders how soon I could get an appointment if I *weren't* under warranty....

We got a tankless one. I love it. Great on utilities and it never runs out of hot water.

I actually wish we were closer because that is something my husband CAN fix!

Have y'all heard about the heat wave the South is enduring? Want to know just how ridiculously, unbelievably, unbearably HOT it is right now?
When I took my shower tonight, despite having on nothing but cold water, I barely noticed the difference in temperature.
Today was the 8th day in a row of 100+ temps, and there's only more to come.

Dishes. No dishwasher, and I'm not doing them by hand in cold water. Doesn't kill the germs, and gunky stuff doesn't wash nearly as well in cold water.

Y'all cross your fingers.
Plumber said it was the gas valve, quoted me $396.00. No thank you, I'll wait two weeks for that much money!
Called Sears back, and the nice, helpful, KNOWLEDGABLE lady told me what it *might* be. There's a screen down in the bottom called a "flame arrestor" that's supposed to be cleaned every 6 months. Um, care to guess when I've cleaned it?
Yes, the answer would be NEVER. 
The plumber who installed the heater didn't tell me, or at least if he did, I don't remember it. It is on a sticker on the heater, but you know how good most people are at reading stickers.....
I've got to go after lunch and see about one of those long flexible brushes that you use for cleaning out your dryer vent, or under your fridge, to use to get in under the heater and scrub it out, then vacuum. HOPEFULLY that will be it, that the screen is clogged and is just not letting air in. No air = no burning flame. If that's not it, then I'll have to call Sears back and see about that appointment.

"But I have young children!" is a good plea. Or switch to paper plates for a week and think of all the money you're saving on gas.

It didn't work.
I have an appointment for the 30th, but the lady said she would put my name and number in with the tech router person and see if they could work me in sooner.
The trouble is, there's no AC in the kitchen. So every time I heat something, it makes the kitchen that much hotter.
I guess I can throw in a capful of bleach each time I wash to help kill the germs, too.
