| | If you live under a rock, Wii (pronounced "we") is the game from Nintendo that no one could find at Christmas two years in a row. Good luck even finding it today.
I finally bought one for myself. I was going to sell this one too, but I wanted it so bad that I finally opened it and began playing with it. OMG, it's so fun!
The only games I have so far are the ones that came with it (sports bundle) and I've only played with it once so far, but, this really IS fun for the whole family. I played Wii tennis (I lost, it was best out of 5 and I only one two sets) and then Wii fitness. My Wii fitness age is 80. I'm hoping it was only so bad because I haven't gotten the hang of how to use the controller to bowl or hit baseballs.
I am going to go play some more Wii. If you don't have one in your house already, I think you should get one... whether you are 8 or 80. This thing is fun! I can't wait to get DDR for it! |

| | When I went to the chiro office Thursday, one of the gals there was talking about hers. She said the boxing game was great, and she really worked up a sweat doing it.
It sounds like a lot of fun...and actually a good way to get kids (and adults) active while playing video games!

| | I think this actually could be good for my injury to tell the truth.
I'm "ok" from it -- as in no herniated discs or stenosis etc. But for almost two years now my right side of my body is just FUBAR. I can't carry anything, holding my arm up etc is too much. I'm right handed, so it's a problem. But now I'm playing Wii tennis and I feel like I'm using muscles I haven't used in a while. As long as I don't over do it, and I take a lot of breaks (which I am) I feel like it's helping a lot more than the therabands have been. Plus, therabands are boring, and I don't get to "beat" an opponent.
(I actually did use exercise as part of the reasoning behind buying a Wii. DDR for PS2 was great exercise, and when I've saved a bit I'll get that too. Plus, you know, all my friends have Wiis, so I have to have one too ) |

| | Oh, I am so torn! I keep thinking about it. We have no games systems in my house, I've always been really firm about that. However, this one seems different, no kids sitting on couches for hours at a time. I may cave on this. Hmmm.... |

| | I was just reading an article about it saying that while kids are at least up off the couch, it's no substitute for real exercise.
Aha... thank you, closed tabs list: Bummer: Wii no substitute for real exercise_English_Xinhua
And they are PRICEY. Games alone are nearly twice what other game systems cost. We were very lucky that my in-laws helped Santa out with this one, or we'd never have been able to afford it. $250+ tax for the system, then if you need more than one Wiimote and nunchuck, that's another $60 per set, plus $50 or $60 each game, plus batteries... ugh. |

| | I think it's sort of "no duh" that Wii tennis is no replacement for real tennis. I wouldn't play real tennis if you paid me to be honest.
The other thing of this is that as I am playing I am wishing I had this as a child. I am playing sports that I hate. I am playing tennis, bowling, and baseball. All of these are things that as a child I would have protested about being FORCED to play. And if I could have spent all my time on the bench (or the equivalent for each game) without anyone noticing, all the better.
I think if I had at least one positive experience with a sport like this, maybe I would not have hated ALL sports so much. Maybe if I felt like I could hit a ball on a tv screen, I'd have had the confidence to at least try to hit a ball with a bat in real life. Instead I figured I'd fail, so I'd go out and fail, and feel like a failure, and hate sports even more.
I think this would have been the best gift for me as a child
But, I'm not a child, my hatred of sports is already ingrained, and the most wii is going to do for me is get me away from the computer a bit and give me something to look forward to. It also gives me an excuse to have people over to play games. Let's face it, everyone enjoys this thing since it's something that everyone can play.
I also think it would be hard for anyone to argue that Dance Dance Revolution is not exercise. I used to exercise with it on my PS2 and I would break into a sweat. I can't wait to have it for Wii. |

| | Thing is, it's not even a close approximation. The only game I even remotely break a sweat at is boxing. Many of the games you don't even need to get up off the couch for play. As for DDR, I doubt I'll be replacing the one we got for the Xbox. It's $70, and has only one controller included.
Don't get me wrong; it's cool, but I can't use "exercise" to justify getting it. |

| | I would love to have one because it has the types of games. Action games and games with a lot of rapid motion like Sonic tend to make me queasy. But, I can't justify the expense right now.

| | I can't really afford it either. My plan was to list it on CL and see if people are still looking for it and if they were not willing to pay a premium, I was going to return it. It drove me nuts though because I wanted it so bad. This morning I broke down and opened it. Now I'm in love with it. NOW someone wants to buy it off of me. I think he will give me enough profit to almost pay for a new one for me, which, would make it ok. But knowing me, I'll buy another one, sell that if there is a demand, then justify buying the Wii and Guitar Hero or DDR. Won't make me popular, but, it's helped me to buy things I wan't for myself but can't afford in the past. |

Hmmm.... | First you need your own Nintendo DS with BrainAge on it, and as a bonus you can make the kids exercise their brains by reluctantly loaning it out after they beg and plead and do chores. After all, it's for grownups, LOL. They can learn to read the treble clef to play piano keys!
