New Year Resolutions - 2008

I thought it might be fun for us to have a thread for these that we can refer back to and see how well we did in 2008.

As for me I resolve to:
1. Read more. I don't know how I got away from reading. I resolve to read at least one book a week and not watch as much television.

2. Spend less on groceries.

3. Keep my house in better order. It's getting out of hand again.

4. Get my PHP 5 certification.

5. Find a hobby that doesn't involve a lot of money or the use of a computer.

6. Make a new friend. I need to start meeting people and building up relationships outside of work and family.

What are yours?

Re New Year Resolutions - 2008

Regarding #6 - what are we?

Before I got this job, I had a goal of creating one new professional contact per month - not just a business card, but a sense that I could call on this person for something (advice, a lead, etc.). When I had to find a new job fast, having added the contacts was immensely helpful.

Conversely, sometimes my work relationships lead to some great away-from-work friendships. Half my Christmas cards seem to come to my home from former coworkers.

Again this year, mine are goals instead of resolutions:

1. Spend more time with my best friend, either on the phone or in Buffalo or NYC

2. Settle Dad's estate

3. Get social work license

4. Take on a social work intern

5. Replace car

6. Improve condo (building and community)

7. Reconnect with family (or not...)

8. Nominate new pastor (as part of church committee)

9. Eliminate credit card debt totally (or get pretty damned close)

10. Pay off student loan

11. Remodel apartment (bathrooms, at least)

12. Repair/recondition furniture (one piece per month)

13. Work towards paying off mortgage and building up retirement account

Re New Year Resolutions - 2008

I blogged my jewelry business goals, but I'll do my personal ones here.

Lose that 35 lbs by June. I have signed up for a Body Pump class at the Y (2 days/week) so I'm hoping to kick start that.

I'm also going on the "don't necessarily eat what you like" diet. It sounds stupid, but for example, take breakfast. I love eggs, toast, some kinds of cold/hot cereals. I am not a fan of plain Quaker Oats, but I've been eating them...they are bland and boring, but they fill me up and are satisfying. I don't eat as much as I would if I were eating the instant, sugar-filled Apples and Cinnamon version, because I don't like it as well.

Last two credit cards will be paid off by the end of the year.

New deck or patio, paid with cash.

New siding for the house. Ditto on the cash.

I think that's enough.

That looks like your list for Walgreen's, not your Resolutions List.

Re New Year Resolutions - 2008

Here are mine - last year I didn't set any, and didn't accomplish much. Maybe this will kickstart a self-improvement plan.
  1. Lose more weight - I'd love to be back in size 4 by summer.
  2. Tone up - this means actually working up a sweat at the gym and doing my least favorite crunches.
  3. Get my house completely organized and clean out every single cupboard. Whoever gets my BOC might see it arrive in a moving truck.
  4. Clean out my car at least once a week - it now serves as a rolling office and dog house. Harley can stay, but the stacks of books and student files can come inside to my desk.
  5. Learn at least one new skill or something to complement a current hobby each month.
  6. Get 2007 EA holiday cards finished and mailed.
  7. Build savings account back up to a comfortable level by end of year.
  8. Learn to fish, or at least pretend to like it.

Reminder to self: rig game so Pippa gets Deb's BOC......

And I'm pretty anal about my car. It gets messy, I find the person who messed it up and hurt them.

I'll never forget when Bree was about 5...we went fishing with some friends who had two boys. The boys were weenies about baiting their hooks. Bree scoffed at them, stuck a worm on her hook AND took the fish off when she caught one.

I raised that one right.

I'm signing up for a fused glass class next week, and will add a seminar on lampworked beads if I can fit it in. I may be sending YOU beads.

Re New Year Resolutions - 2008

1. Learn more about PM's ADD and PTSD and learn to be more patient with their manifestations.

2. Find a wonderful friend here - we have lots of good aquaintances, but no intimates.

3. Clean out and organize the entire house, one drawer per day.

4. Actually use the health club membership we just piggy-backed onto PM's.

Re New Year Resolutions - 2008

1. As is my resolution every year, decrapify my house and KEEP IT THAT WAY (it's the second part that's hard for me).

2. Be back to pre-pregnancy weight by the end of 2008.

There's a bunch more floating around in my head, but I'll be happy if I can do these!

I started the Body Pump class last night. If it doesn't kill me, I'm gonna be a supermodel by the time it's over.

Re New Year Resolutions - 2008

2. Settle Dad's estate - one account transferred, stock paperwork acquired

8. Nominate new pastor (as part of church committee) - met last night and agreed on an agressive timeline to accomplish tasks

12. Repair/recondition furniture (one piece per month) - couch is out for repair as we speak

I didn't set a health goal, but I exercised almost daily for two weeks, slacked for nine days, started up again, lost two pounds, gained them back, lost them again, and have been using a food diary daily. Vietnamese Chicken Curry has 675 calories per serving

Good for you Wormie.

I'm keeping up on my weekly goals for jewelry making, and now that I'm over the plague, will be back in Body Pump class. I will find out on Saturday how much closer to that 35lbs I am.
