| | No wreck, but my car's shot, too | | At least there was no accident involved in this one! My car's oil system is completely shot. The oil folks gave me enough oil to get home on and said "scrap it".
*Thankfully*, I've already got another car lined up - I was just waiting a couple of weeks to see if I could sell my car first because I didn't want to have to be paying insurance on two cars. Now I just need to get the other car tonight and be done with it. I won't be moving my car again if I can help it.

Sorry you are having trouble, Melanie. I am glad you have the next car all lined up already. Why not take insurance off the car that you won't be driving? |

| | Re No wreck, but my car's shot, too | | Sub-clause to Murphy's Law - there's no interest in an item for sale until that item is no longer usable.
I had decided last week to buy this other car, and immediately put my car in the local free-to-advertise sales paper. No calls whatsoever. So *yesterday*, the day *after* the poor thing goes kablooie? 5 calls.

Before it went belly-up, I would have needed to keep insurance on it even if I had bought the other one, because hopefully people would have been test-driving it, taking it to their mechanic, etc.
Not a problem anymore. LOL

| | Re No wreck, but my car's shot, too | | Sorry to hear that. But, as you mentioned, that is the way it seems to go.

| | Re No wreck, but my car's shot, too | | Too bad you can't even get book price out of it. Can you advertise it and hope someone will buy it to drop an engine in it? (There's always those used parts places that buy it to part it out. If that's not an option, had you thought of donating it to one of the charities that will come and pick it up and give you a receipt for tax purposes?)

| | Re No wreck, but my car's shot, too | | I just put it up on Craigslist with the current information in it, and will do so again for the other ad paper around here as well. I called a salvage place yesterday, and they said it sounded like maybe $300-500 they'd be willing to offer, but then he never called me back.
Private party book value on the thing before it went out on me was only around $900, so I'm not expecting much!
