| | Once again I have lost my mind. You would think that I had learned my lesson after last year's fiasco, but no. When they come crawling to you asking if you would please help out just one more year, it can be hard to say no.
This years Girl Scout cookie sales falls right at the same time that I have started my new job. This week I got to start my new position which is a huge change, plus I get to give the cookie presentation tomorrow to the girls and parents. I am just now getting a chance to look at the materials...
Wish me luck! |

| | So do we need to put this on our calendars to remind you in late December 2008 that if you don't volunteer, someone else will? Good luck.

| | You are a NUT! SOMEONE will do it, and that SOMEONE doesn't have to be YOU. I actually ate cookies this year, seeing as I didn't have to have over a thousand boxes in my HOUSE for weeks on end. |

| | Good luck, Leslie!
I was troop cookie chairman for two years--the girls (and moms) worked so hard, and all they got, as a troop, was $.40 a box....
Most of the money goes to the state and national organization. Knowing that made it easier to say no the third year

| | The local GS council protested back in the mid-90's, I think they were successful in getting a larger piece of the pie as a result. Of course the local GS council has sold off almost all, if not all, of its campgrounds since the girls just weren't interested in camping any more, which might futher show how Long Islanders are weird.

| | No, MJ! It shows how valuable land is on Long Island. When my daughter was a Girl Scout in South Dakota and Arkansas, if they had tried to sell the land their camps were on, there probably wouldn't have been any takers.
When my boys were scouts on Long Island, the camp was all the way out in Riverhead, but they sometimes camped in the public parks--Christopher Morley, for one.
My daughter loved to camp, even in high school (it must be the different culture...) Rappelling, exploring caves...
Long Island is a different world. |

| | DH's boss is huge into Boy Scouts with his sons, and the troop here camps out once a year on the ice at the hockey rink over in Columbus, GA.
But that's only so they can get their Polar Camping badge. It's pretty tough to plan a 32 degrees or below camping trip when you're this far below the Mason-Dixon.

| | Both our cars are full of cookies right now. One car with each girl's cookies. Yep, Maggie is a leader.
You know how hard it is not to buy a box at lunch when all I have to do is go out to my car?
Ugh.

| | hahahahaha I told you not to do this!!!!! I will laugh all the way into April if I must (yeah, I'm a mean sister.)
And put us down for cookies again this year. Although (pippa and MJ cover your ears) there are still a couple of boxes left in the cupboard from last year.

No, MJ! It shows how valuable land is on Long Island. | According to my friend the scout leader, the land wasn't sold because it's valuable, it was sold because it wasn't being used. One camp was used once in three years, another not once in five, and when they tried to rally the kids to camp, there was far too insufficient interest in camping to justify the cost of maintaining the land. I don't know if scouts have to pay taxes on their land, that too could have been a factor, but the predominant reason was the girls just did not want to go.
