What has Craigslist done for you?

I started a thread recently asking what the website LinkedIn: Relationships Matter has done for you. Now I'm curious what craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums has done for you, if anything.

I found a job through Craigslist. It was a seasonal, part time job, but that same company has gone on to rehire me several times.

I've tried to sell stuff through Craigslist, but I never have any luck. It's been a huge waste of time. For example, if I paid $1000 for something, and it's in brand new condition, with receipts, etc. I might try to sell it for $700. Counter offers of $75 are not worth wasting my time to relpy to... I'd rather keep my stuff.

I have looked for stuff I want to buy on CL but I've never been successful there either.

Re What has Craigslist done for you?

Bought a bike from Craigslist for $25

When the LIRR gave out 10-trips two years ago as a "thank you" to their monthly pass customers, I sold them via Craigslist, and my co-worker's 10-trips too. (Seriously - how they thought a 10-trip ticket was a benefit to people who already have a ticket that gives them unlimited rides all month is totally beyond me!)

Re What has Craigslist done for you?

I've bought and sold a couple of pieces of restaurant equipment and made a few bucks each time. Bought a flatbed trailer and traded it for a smoker. I promptly sold the smoker for more money than I could have made off the trailer. Bought a brand new nail gun and compressor for 250 less than Home Depot's price that I'm keeping. Sold a curio cabinet last Friday.

I also get those sillly low offers. I just say no and go on. If I have a complaint with CL it would be that many people make appointments to look at your item and never show. I think I've figued out that most people on CL are like me in that they are looking for a deal. Price it right and you may never sell it. Price it a little low and people will run over each other trying to buy it.

Re What has Craigslist done for you?

Found 120 sqft of maple laminate flooring for $65. Found a 8x10 Pottery Barn rug for $25. Found a microwave used for 2 months for $50 (retail $150) and a refrigerator almost brand new for $60. I always check there first when I need something.

Re What has Craigslist done for you?

Found a new fish tank for my crabs- it would have cost about $200 at Petsmart and I bought it for $40. I've gotten a few writing jobs there, too.
