| | Yesterday, I went grocery shopping. I parked my Sante Fe squarely in the middle of the parking space. I am especially self-conscious about doing so because this is the largest car I have ever own and even though it's not that large, it takes up more space than my former cars... a Nissan Sentra, Subarus, a Fox, etc. Even the trucks we owned were small.. a Toyota Pup and a Chevy s10. Even though I get 22 mpg in town with my 4 cyl standard Hyundai, I also feel conspicuous and wish I had a smaller car (except for long trips, then I love it!!!)
Came back out... a monster Land Rover, eight passenger thing was right next to my Sante Fe. Inches from the driver's side door. If I could squeeze between the two vehicles, I would not be able to open the door as it would only reveal perhaps an inch of opening to my car.
On the other side of the behemoth... about two and a half feet of leftover parking space. AND... the same vehicle that was in the spot to its left was there when I came out (I noted it as it was a little yellow mini cooper).
GRRRRRRR.
So, I had to get in the passengers side, climb over the stick shift and get into the driver's side. No easy feat for my rather large size.
After arranging my dress (of course, I was wearing a dress) and catching my breath, I sat and glowered at that Land Rover.
Then, I opened my window and emptied my diet coke all over it.
It didn't take much effort... I could reach over to the windshield quite easily as it was so damned close to my car.
Then, I drove off.
He or she is damned lucky I didn't have a coolatta.
I know it's immature.
Was I really that wrong to do it?

| | Re I did a bad, bag thing | | Well, it wouldn't necessarily cause permanent damage, like keying it would have, or denting it with your door if you had tried to get in on the driver's side... You could have done much worse... Your anger was justified... I guess the only drawback is Mr. Land Rover might not know exactly WHY he had soda all over his car!
But then again, I have fantasies of slashing Mr. Yellow Truck Man's tires and/or writing "I'm An Inconsiderate Dick" on his back windshields with a paint stick, so I might not be the best person to judge.

| | Re I did a bad, bag thing | | not all that bad, more or less. Better than the time my friend did key the car that blocked her in. She was mad, the car had dented her car with it's door-blatenly obvious-so she keyed it. and smacked her door into it(a van I think) a few dozzen times.

| | Re I did a bad, bag thing | | Honey, I am still laughing my butt off.
The only thing I could say is it's too bad you had to lose a Diet Coke over it, but that was GENIUS. Especially if it was cold and the sucker froze all over the side of the Land Rover. The only thing that could have been better would have been to pour it over the driver's side windshield.

I Love it!
I think I would have looked for a bright red lipstick (or even gone back inside to buy one) and left a love note for the pig parker telling him/her what I thought of their parking. |

| | Re I did a bad, bag thing | | You guys crack me up. I would not have expected this from any of you!
I had a piggy neighbor who backed his SUV in front of my place. There's normally two places there, both should probably be mine, but there's no assigned parking, so I really can't complain if someone takes one of "my" spots. But, he backed his car into BOTH of them. Right smack in the middle. He left it there without moving it for DAYS.
It was all I could do not to leave him a nasty anonymous note. Only, it wouldn't be so anonymous, because, ya'know... it's pretty obviously in front of my place, so it would be me putting it there. Still...
When it snowed, though, I reaaaaaaaaalllllly wanted to write MOVE ME in the snow on his windshield. |

at least it wasn't yogurt-I remember once, at the hotel, two guests had a disagreement and one dumped yogurt on the other guys BMW. Yogurt is apparently pretty nasty on paint jobs.

| | Re I did a bad, bag thing | | I wonder how yogurt smoothies are. I think Mr. Pig parker (or Ms Pig parker) slipped in beside me at BJ's this week, too.
White car, Elyzabeth? I just bumped it a couple of times with the cart trying to get close enough to get my groceries in. Not hard enough to actually damage it, just enough to scrape off a layer of dirt from the bumper. Bet it made them look closely, though.

I've never tested it myself, but, supposedly if you leave soda on a painted surface the acids in it eat the paint off. I worked with someone who claimed he wouldn't drink it for that reason -- if it can strip paint, what does it do to your insides, he would ask. |

If left on a car for a while (like days), it can dull the gloss of the paint (especially if in the sun, so I've heard). Most damage I've ever had to car paint (besides a collision) was from my car being egged. I waited a day or so to wipe off the egg and wherever bits of shell had dried, paint flecks came off with the bits of shell.

I've been in a similar situation before. This works best at night. You leave a note on the windshield. Quote: |
Hi, I have to leave for an appointment, but I apologize for the damage. I am willing to compensate, please call me any time after 5. 508341392 Again, I'm sorry.

Of course, you DO NOT damage the car.
Also note, only 9 digits in the phone number.
Oops. Good luck finding the "damage." It's in the mind.

Diet Coke is well over a pH of 3, IIRC. Edited to add: a higher pH is less acidic. |

I think it is the phosphorus (sp) that works. I can well imagine what it can do to a paint job!!!
