They should go to the homes and businesses of those summoned and drag them out.

Re So, what happens when none of the Jury Pool Shows Up?

You would be amazed at how long and how loudly I could be diagreeable and uncooperative. A summons for jury duty you get in the mail is one thing, but to be kidnapped of the street SO does not work for me.

Re So, what happens when none of the Jury Pool Shows Up?

In NY and St. Louis, we were called to jury duty for one week.

When we lived in South Dakota, we knew people who were on jury duty for two years!!

They could be selected for juries in trial after trial. True, trials didn't occur as frequently, but they had to be available, calling in day after day.

When I was on jury duty in Arkansas, the jury period was six months. We were divided into four groups--A, B, C, D. We could only be panelled once every four days, depending on the group we were in. Luckily I only had to serve 3 days, and once had to fill out a long questionnaire for a murder trial (they didn't want me because I was against the death penalty.)

But having to be available for six months....or two years...would crimp anyone's style, even though you could apply for "vacation" or "sick" time.

Seen this done before and seen the agitation. Funny just how the threat of contempt and jail time seemed to change people.

Re So, what happens when none of the Jury Pool Shows Up?

The threat of contempt and jail time wouldn't put me in any sort of decent mood to actually serve ANYONE'S best interest. In that case, people would want to get out of there ASAP, so rather than debate and possibly hang a jury, it's going to look like majority rule. Oh? Everyone says guilty? Fine, guilty. Let's go home.

How does that help?

Pippa could get out of it by just bringing the kids along.

Can't provide daycare? Gee too bad. I'll just sit them here in the jury box with me.

Re So, what happens when none of the Jury Pool Shows Up?

Colorado has a one day/one trial rule for jury duty-if you aren't chosen the first day you don't get called back, if you do get chosen-you sit on that jury. I've done a one day jury. I've been called more than that, I've always showed up.

I agree-they should have gone out and rounded up the people who no-showed. I'm wondering if maybe there is an issue with the mailing of the summons-one fo the days, NONE of 169 people showed up-that's just beyond odd.

Re So, what happens when none of the Jury Pool Shows Up?

Bahahaha! Can you IMAGINE??? Not to mention that they are all completely at home in a court room... my mom has worked in Federal Court for over 20 years and all the kids have been up there... gone into her judge's courtroom when court isn't in session... SAT IN THE JUDGE'S SEAT... They'd be all over the place!

Shoot... Bug came home one day and announced he wanted a bomb-sniffing dog for Christmas. I'm not sure where he was getting the bombs.

Pippa wins! That is the funniest thing ever!

As for the contempt thing, I have always wanted to do jury duty. I would rearrange anything in order to get to do so. However, snatching folks off the street doesn't work for me, and if I were the one on trial I hope my lawyer would ahve the good sense to try and get a mistrial declared, since as Pippa says, no one on the jury would be in his or her happy place at being there with no warning.

Re So, what happens when none of the Jury Pool Shows Up?

I got screwed out of getting paid last time I got called for jury duty. It left such a bad taste in my mouth that I really resent getting jury notices. I resented it so much that I was prepared to say ANYTHING to get me out of that trial, since I knew it would mean that no one, not the place I worked for and not the state would be paying me.

Now, I guess someone would pay me (I think my employer for up to some amount of days), so I think I'd behave myself and act like I'm supposed to.

If I were one of the people on the street rounded up for jury duty, yes, I'd lie lie lie to get out of being picked for a jury. But once I'm chosen, I wouldn't be so flip as to go along with the group just so I could get out quicker. I'd really uphold my duties at that point.

Re So, what happens when none of the Jury Pool Shows Up?

I've been called a few times. All that ever happens is I sit on my can for half the day while they whittle down the jury pool and send me home. Meanwhile, I've lost what could have been a productive day.

If the jury system was a bit more fair and realistic, I might not mind. However, I go in knowing that they won't pick me... so it is a waste of my time versus doing my duty as a citizen. FWIW, I'd love to be picked and placed on a jury.
