| | Re I'm going to Pittsburgh! | | Lynn, there are pieces there which we didn't see at Fairchid. I'm going to this because next year the closest one to me is in San Francisco. So, Pittsburgh in the winter it is. |

| | Re I'm going to Pittsburgh! | | Yeah, Lynn, you should post some of your pics from that other trip - those were amazing.
Pip, it's glass sculptures, and they come in lots of pretty colors.

| | Re I'm going to Pittsburgh! | | There is ONE showcase at Borsheims that had four Chihuly vases in it...I stood in front of it for close to 10 minutes just absorbing.
Pip, the glass work is amazing. And the big (I mean REALLY big) stuff is just incredible if you simply consider the construction.
I have no idea where my flicker account is...otherwise I'd post that link - I think the Chihuly stuff was in there.

| | Re I'm going to Pittsburgh! | | I guess I'm in the meh camp. They have a glass program at RIT and I've seen student work at that scale or bigger on a fairly regular basis around here. I like the plants better. |

| | Re I'm going to Pittsburgh! | | The Chiluly web site has some amazing examples that might even change Pippa's mind. Plants are beautiful, but this stuff is amazing.

| | Re I'm going to Pittsburgh! | | Pippa, when I went to Fairchild last year, I was going to see the plants while everyone else was going to see the glass. I got one look at the sculptures- and the way they totally fit into the landscape - and I was like,"Plants? What plants?". I have never been to a botanical garden where you could drag me away from the plants except for that one- the glass was that magnificent. I'll post some of my pics of the pices from last year. |

I took this pic in Columbus Ohio about 2 years ago. It was a ceiling, and there was light sources behind the glass. There is also a fantastic ginormous glass orchid (several stories tall) that looked incredibly realistic, I just don't have the pic on my hd. |

| | Re I'm going to Pittsburgh! | | I looked at his Web site... and WOW. I never though glass could look like that! I'm going to have to watch for it around here.

| | Re I'm going to Pittsburgh! | | Most of my photos are not on there...I need to find them!! I love the White Tower though...my favorite was one of a ball that was suspended from the trees and I took a photo straight up.
Margaret, I looked for your display...didn't find it, but it sure looks like Chihuly's style. Very cool.

At the Harvard Museum of Natural History, they have a whole collection of plants and flowers all made from glass. I swear, you would think they were real, even close up. Unbelievable detail.
If you're ever in Cambridge, I highly recommend stopping in. It's a small, but jam-packed museum. The Glass Flowers Collection*-*Harvard Museum of Natural History |

JP, that is so cool! I would love to see that exhibit sometime. As well as the entire museum. Thanks for posting that! |

| | Re I'm going to Pittsburgh! | | Cindy, I'm drooling over that garden. Enjoy your trip. I love Chihuly's work. I was in Olympia a few weeks ago and couldn't go home without driving up to Tacoma to spend some time at the Museum of Glass. If you guys ever come out to the Northwest, it's a must-see. I can spend hours in the hot shop watching the gaffers work.
I am taking a fused glass class at OSU starting next Monday. It's something I've always wanted to try. I'm trying to fit in a lampwork seminar into my February schedule since I have access to a torch setup - there are so many possibilities.
Sara, that's a terrific picture.
