| | Shortly before midnight last night, our 65 inch television made a popping sound and quit working. It makes horrible noises if you try to plug it in and turn it on.
I called Tweeter today. Turns out, we bought the thing 1 year ago today. It popped right before the warranty expired. whew!
I had to call and leave a message with the repair center. The local guy I talked to said he and his manager would back me up if they tried to give me grief about the warranty being expired.
It will be at least Tuesday until Bob gets tv back. I think his hands are going to shake horribly starting in a couple of hours

| | I LOVE that. Same thing happened with an Ott lamp I bought - to the day, it was a year old and still under warranty. They can't argue with that.

| | Ours died about a week before the warranty. Our big tv too. It was a color tube. Hopefully it will be something simple Amy.

| | My friend's big tv died a few days before the end of his warranty, and then again after his warranty expired. He was without tv for a couple months until he could afford to have it fixed. I'm thinking I'm glad I don't have one of those big tv's.

| | WE never buy an extended warranty. When we bought the big tv, we did get one, and for the life of me I don't know what came over hubby. But I am damn glad we did. We did renew it too. The color tube alone was over 200 dollars, plus the service call. Because both tubes have gone, the extended warranty has more than paid for itself.

| | I didn't get it because it was just more than I could afford at the time - about $400. Given that other televisions I have owned have lasted 10 or more years with no problems, I just figured I would fix it out of pocket if necessary.
Our prior big tv lasted about 7 years before it started losing picture quality. I ended up giving it to our local volunteer firemen when I upgraded to this one.
Kareem thinks it's not necessarily a bad thing that it broke down when it did. It's still under warranty - so no financial hardship for me. But, it takes tv away from Bob for a while so maybe he'll get some gumption to do something else. I know that I'm loving the quiet of the downstairs right now. Before Bob, I didn't always have cable tv. And, with the hills around we don't get good over the air reception. So, the kids and I went months at a time with no tv other than the occasional video that we borrowed from a friend.
I've gotten lazy lately. I don't read any more and I tend to spend evenings and weekends in front of the television. A few days of less television will do me some good.

| | My parent's 36 incher broke one year on 12/23. My parents went shopping and told every sales person "don't bother showing us tvs unless you can guarentee delivery on 12/24. We can't get through the holidays without a tv in the livingroom." Some salespeople said "nope, can't do it" but one guy said "no problem." So that was good timing on their part too. It was also bad timing because the flat panel tvs were just coming out and were megabucks. They bought a rear projection and it takes up the entire wall it is against, which isn't great. Within a few years the prices had dropped incredibly on the "nice" tvs and they are stuck with this big monster.
We were so freaked about the livingroom tv, but, we all had our own tvs in our bedrooms, and in the guest bedroom too. You would have thought we'd make due | | |
