| | K - didn't go
1st Miss don't remember, but she came to dinner at our house once because my mom thought it was the nice thing to do. She couldn't figure out how to use the corn holders. She gave all the kids hugs at the end of the day and we loved her.
2d Miss don't remember, but she scolded us when we tried to get hugs at the end of the day, generally just LOOKED mean and made me go to the principles office (Mr. Freeze, I do remember that) when Tommy Evans made me say a bad word I didn't know was bad.
3rd Miss don't remember anything about her at all.
4th Miss Kellen all I remember about her was that she was pretty and stupid and that's pretty pathetic if you are only in 4th grade and realize that
5th Miss can't remember big old blur but Joann Frazier took off her skirt for PE in the room right next to the lockers and she wasn't wearing her gym shorts yet and everyone laughed.
6th Mrs can't remember but I do remember she was the first person I'd ever heard of that wanted to be cremated when she died and I thought that was the oddest thing.
So that's my elementary history.

| | How funny - I remember most of mine, too.
K- Miss Honald, who lived with Miss Stevenson always because thye were best friends. Many parents commented on this, but I loved Miss Honald. She told my dad I needed piano lessons, and that was only in kindergarten.
1. Mrs. Cason - she used to make me stay after school just a few minutes so she could give me books her son didn't want.
2. Mrs. Helgeson - she taught us to do court dances, shake hands nicely, recite poetry, set a proper table, arrangeflowers and say a few phrases in French. Years later I found out that she'd gone to finishing school after high school, but never quite made it as far as college. Which explains why she also taught us that the Pilgrims came from Spain.
3. Mrs. Creason - was absolutely f-ing batshit crazy, and mean as a snake. Used to make the class pick on one child, made us call each other names and for punishment, made other kids use the ruler or paddle on whoever she was most angry about. Today she would *so* be in jail.
4. Miss Coe/Mrs. Mimnaugh, who left at Christmas break since she was pregnant. Subsitute decided to teach all of us how Mrs. Mimnaugh became pregnant, complete with pictures. Photographs, actually. Funnily enough, after several of us went home discussing some of the conversations we'd had with her regarding all of this, she left suddenly.
5. Mrs. Hunter- the best teacher ever.
6. Mr. King- he liked blues and jazz. I adored him.
And after that, not a clue. Still, it's funny how many little details stay with a person from the early grades. Lynn, I am cracking up at the story of your friend sans gym shorts- too funny! |
