Earthquake

If I wanted crazy weather, I would have stayed in Florida!

Woke up this morning to the shakes. I said to Brian, "We're having a f'ing earthquake." He said, "no, its just really bad wind". Till later this am when he turned on the TV and said it was a 5.4 Earthquake in IL. Strong enough to wake us - not bad enough to do any damage, though Brian did see some brick damage in town.

I thought I would only have to worry about snow and Ice. This is nuts.

My second earthquake. One in Brooklyn NY, one here. Odd.

I heard about it on the radio today, Wormie and thought about you. I've never been through one (at least not that I know) and they scare me.

Unfortunately, we're coming into severe weather season here in the Midwest...you're going to have your share of thunderstorms, hail and tornadoes. Have a safe place in the basement you guys (including the cats) can go to.

Re Earthquake

Thunderstorms I'm used to. We got BAD ones in FL.
Don't like Tornados - don't really have a great safe spot
I'm very afraid of earthquakes, but this wasn't a big scary thing like they have in CA - it was sort of odd. I was more concerned about the new house since it's not really built yet, but it held up just fine.

Re Earthquake

We had two in one day a long time ago in Reading. I got a kick out of. Ex husband freaked out. After growing up in tornado alley, minor earthquakes are a bit of a giggle for me.

Re Earthquake

we've had at least one in Denver-Golden is built on a fault line. I was in California for the one in the 90's that broke the bay bridge

Re Earthquake

The New Madrid fault. I heard later that a quake travels further there because of the solid rock, but because there aren't as many fault lines as there are in California, for example, the possibility of a big one is very remote.

My son in St. Louis called and said he'd been awakened at 4:30 a.m. and that his bed was shaking--but he did say there was no evidence of any structural damage in his home or anywhere he traveled on the way to and from work.
