| | It never rains but it pours.... | | So last Monday afternoon, we took DH's car to the shop to be looked at because it had gotten almost impossible to get the gear shift to into 3rd and especially 5th gears. It's a Subaru, and although the place can do the work, they've had to order the parts, so we've been down to just one car the rest of the week.
Of course, wouldn't you know that DH didn't finally decide to take the car in until AFTER I'd already spend $475 on a new table.
So what happens today? Why, MY car dies of course! A church friend helped with it, but when they finally got to the source of the problem, it's not anything he can fix, so right now they're towing it in to a shop.
Thankfully some other church friends have a car they're willing to let us borrow for a while, at least until we get one car or the other back. So DH can get to work, and I can get to the store.
I just hope they can get it fixed by Thursday, because I'm supposed to go out of town on Friday.

That stinks! Glad you have friends that can help, and hope the repairs aren't too costly! |

| | Re It never rains but it pours.... | | And a financial lesson - no matter how tempting it is to use your emergency fund to pay down bills, DON'T. I've been very tempted the last couple of months to pay down some of our debt with the money I had saved up, and I'm SO glad I didn't. If I had, I'd have to put this work on credit and then pay it off, and I would have been a very unhappy camper because I've made such good progress on our debt. Most if not all of this will be covered by our emergency fund with little to no credit getting involved. I'll still have to rebuild our emergency fund, but I'll be *saving* money, not paying interest as part of the payments.

Good luck on all that. It doesn't rain consistently except in, where is that, Seattle & London so....... yeah, don't move there.
Hugs!

| | Re It never rains but it pours.... | | Yippee! They've almost finished up with both cars - mine was an easy fix that they were able to do first thing this morning. They're just tracking to track down one more problem on each car (DH's backup lights don't work, and the engine lights stay on permanently, something with the wiring. And mine's got a rattle that sounds to them like the alternator, but I just had the alternator done in Feb.) But the cars should be ready by this afternoon.
Now - how do two people drive three cars?! LOL

| | Re It never rains but it pours.... | | I had three cars/two drivers for a couple weeks here, but as of noon today we're back to 2 and 2.
If your luck runs like ours, both cars will be fine and dandy for a good long time now

| | Re It never rains but it pours.... | | Yay, both our babies are home now. Mine still has the rattle - they're convinced it's the alternator, but I had that done elsewhere - and DH's lights still aren't fixed because they were having trouble getting hold of a wiring diagram, and he just told them not to worry about it and he'd get it for now and worry about the lights later. We only drive at night 2 times a week, and even then usually the only backing up we have to do is in a good sized parking lot with few cars.
And it was less than $600 for BOTH cars - we had thought at first that his alone was going to be more than $600!
Of course, I then turned around and put $55 of gas in my car which is more than the physical water pump bit cost.

| | Re It never rains but it pours.... | | The $55. of gas hurts. Our son's car is having tire issues. Hubby is going to check the tire tonight, but I may be out tire shopping with him tomorrow.
Oh, better to have more cars than drivers. For a while we were 4 drivers and 2 cars. Guess who never had a car??? Mom. Now we are 4 and 4. Much better.
