| | Silly mother of two seeks help | | I have done what I thought I would never, ever do.
I should have consulted all of you before I did this.
I have heard the stories before, too.
I think there may be some kind of support group for this.
I bought Jonas Brothers tickets for my daughters and one other.
My 12-year old ran around the house screaming much like ET did when he and Gertie scared one another ... arms up in the air, breathless squeals, "Gretchen! Gretchen! MOm bought Jonas Brothers tickets!!!"
The 9-year-old, Gretchen, was much less impressed. She still favors ponies and Poly Pockets.
I was hoping my husband might decide to make this a daddy-daughters day.. but NOOOOO. He laughed at my suggestion.
Now, I am having buyers remorse.
So, my question to you is -- ear plugs? Or, an i-POd with some Peter Gabriel or Queen or Sting piped in?
Would it look rude if I had a Sudoku book and a flashlight?
Is it true that the screams of 30,000 preteens is akin to the wails of 60,000 banshees?

| | Re Silly mother of two seeks help | | In my daughter's day it was New Kids on the Block and they had a parent waiting room for the concert goers' drivers. Believe me, that was good. Parents were encouraged not to attend. A nine year old is kind of young for that though. My daughter and friends were about 13-15. |

| | Re Silly mother of two seeks help | | Isn't this one of those time when you're supposed to bake in the radiance of your daughters' joy?
Sorry, Elyzabeth - this is one of those times when not having kids is a blessing. Maybe you'll actually enjoy it? You can bring a skein of yarn and a lighted crochet hook! |

| | Re Silly mother of two seeks help | | A big, burly, heavily tattooed friend of mine took his 10 year old daughter *and* friends *with no other adults* to "Disney's High School Musical on Ice".
And survived. So, survival is possible.
I hear tell there was a lot of screaming....... "five thousand adolescent girls all screaming at one time", he said, "what Beatlemania must have been like"
Of course, he referred to his daughter as being "overwhelmed, in a fugue state". That sounds quiet, a fugue state.
Helpful? No? Sorry. I had boys!

| | Re Silly mother of two seeks help | | Good Luck there Elysabeth!! A temporary moment of insanity--that is what you need to claim, as surely that is what it was when you made the purchase!!
You'll have fun. I like the ipod idea!!

| | Re Silly mother of two seeks help | | Ear plugs. With sound obsuring ear phones over them. I went to a small rock concert once, and the chicky next to me jumped up and down and squealed the whole time, so loudly I could hardly hear the music. Ouch. Just imagine, a whole big venue full of teenboopers, squealing.

| | Re Silly mother of two seeks help | | I felt this way back in March when I won tickets to see Ozzy in Des Moines and we went to the Wiggles instead because we had promised our then 4 3/4 year old that we would take her since the show back in November was canceled & rescheduled to March.
Dang our luck, they were the same night in 2 different cities...one starting about 6:30, the other 7:30 and a 45 minute drive between the 2 places.
Man, I still wish I would have gone to Ozzy. But, being literally 4 foot from the stage looking at those cute little Wiggles was pretty ok too! (And, my ears were not damaged from the sound of their show!).

| | Re Silly mother of two seeks help | | Oh come on! The Jonas Brothers are hot!!! Just dress up exactly like their teen fans, wear bad makeup and scream out all the lyrics to their songs. Embarrass the heck out of your daughter. You'll have memories forever. (The chocolate martini in a flask will help with that. Great suggestion!)

| | Re Silly mother of two seeks help | | I know someone who went to a Jonas Brothers concert with her middle school daughter and actually enjoyed it.
And I LOL'ed at the ET reference. I just had an ET moment with Connor the other day - he was shuffling across the kitchen with his arms outstretched and looked just like ET.

| | Re Silly mother of two seeks help | | I have ear plugs, thank goodness, but must look up the recipe for Chocolate Martinis. Brian?
Actually, the Jonas Brothers I like. It's just the screaming tweenies and teenies that scare me.
I like the idea of the adult room, but I can't leave either of my girls alone, I'm afraid, I'm a mother hen. Sigh.

I wish more parents would stay with their children, even at this age. It says a lot to the children, albeit they truly are embarassed "around their friends". But deep down inside, it helps them feel more secure and loved!
Great going!
