| | Re what's your social media medium (sic) of choice? | | Social Media is applications like facebook, linkedin, twitter, etc.
Twitter is a site where you broadcast the answer to one question: what are you doing?
I just wonder why anyone would care? I know Leslie tried to answer that, but, I'm sorry, I really don't want to read that Mary is bathing her twins, and James is going to rake leaves, while Tom is reading The Memory Keeper's Daughter.
On a day like 9/11, I can see the importance of us sharing our conciousness, or emotions, our actions -- I remember we all connected here in that way. On a normal day, I really don't see the attraction.
But now that I write that, I realize that maybe it's slightly untrue. I do care what you all are doing. We do share "what are you doing this weekend" or "guess what I made for dinner" type convos and I do enjoy those. But they feel, you know, more like a convo to me, rather than a broadcast.
Maybe I'm unqualified to talk about Twitter because I don't Tweet. |

| | Re what's your social media medium (sic) of choice? | | I like to check what my friends on Facebook are doing, so I might really enjoy Twitter, too. Honestly, I feel like I don't get out much lately, and my opportunities for social contact are either shrinking, or made more difficult by arthritic knees, so social media have been a real Godsend to me. I'll Twitter, if I can think of a handle.

| | Re what's your social media medium (sic) of choice? | | Twitter is a conversation with the world. Just as you do in a bar or at a party, you choose which conversations have value to you, and "follow" those people so you can jump in, or you contribute, and if people find your conversation interesting, THEY follow YOU. People who tweet their lunch all the time, for example, or other inane stuff, really don't have much in the way of value to me, so I don't listen. Twitter is not the answer for everyone - which is good. It allows me to have my company and help people find out what works for THEM. Social media is very much about the individual and how they interact with the whole.
Helen, did you know that you can have your Twitter tweets update your FaceBook status? A handy way to keep friends and family in the loop both places. |
