What a night...

weather alarms started going off about 1 or so this morning.

Weather changed from severe thunderstorm at 3:15 and went to tornado warning.

Got the babester downstairs, she's all wired...power went out, we were no longer wired and we are still down at 9:15 this morning with no ETA and a LOT of people in the Des Moines area being out of power.

The winds were crazy, upwards of 80 mph. The winds took a 3 person, large canopy swing on the back porch, lifted it up and moved it across the deck and sounded like a freight train when you are hunkered downstairs.

Scary night and they are claiming we are in for it again tonight.

One shiny note though...when I was on vacation near the end of June, my sump died.

We had it replaced & put in a water back up system. That went into service this morning and pumped an amazing amout of water out so our lower living area stayed dry. (And, it's nice to know it works when the power is out w/in a month since they installed it so we don't have to have any worries - unless the city water and power both go out).

Wow.
We had some major lightening and thunder, but I thought it was just that. This morning the leaves of my plants are wet. I am thinking it rained, but I didn't hear a thing.
Glad you are ok, and hope tonight isn't as bad for you Kim.

I thought about you guys, Kim...it's been such a crazy summer! Glad you didn't get anything last night. Supposed to be dry today, maybe more storms tomorrow - hopefully they will stay away from you!!

Did you get power back yet?

Yes, power finally came back online about 1:30 in the afternoon. Whew...would have lost a lot of stuff in the deep freeze if it didn't get back online!

Just a lot of rain, I think. I dunno, I slept through it...exhasted from working a 14 hour day.

I went to bed late that night Kim, about 1 AM and the lightning was awesome to the north and east, out about your way I would guess. But we did manage to keep our power so no problems for us. Glad to hear no problems for you either, apparently.

I am more than ready for a 'normal' Iowa summer month...

Good to hear from you Tom!

Glad you are doing well. The lightening was awesome that night. And, since our power went out about 3:20 or so, it was our main light (except the flashlights of course).
