Question o' the Day

Why do people...

A)Speed up to pass you,

B)Get back into your lane in front of you, then

C)SLOW DOWN to a speed lower than what you are driving?

I do not understand this phenomenon. Isn't the purpose of passing generally understood to be to GO FASTER?

(And no, I didn't accidentally speed up. I was on cruise on a flat stretch.)

Re Question o' the Day

Since getting cruise control I have found that speed is relative. I lock it in at [mumblemumble] speed; one minute I am passing everyone, next minute everyone is passing me, and no, it's not because they all spotted a trooper on the side of the road.

Anyway, I had a guy doing that to me a few times yesterday. I don't get it either. I also don't get the guy who goes to the left lane to pass the slow-moving truck, then proceeds to pace the truck for six miles or more instead of gunning the engine and getting past the truck already. (Again, no troopers around.) Folks were lined up ten cars deep behind both the truck and the guy who was "passing" the truck, getting frustrated with the rolling roadblock but there was no third lane to use to get past them both.

Re Question o' the Day

This was explained in a psych class as symptoms of passive aggressive disorder, a very difficult personality disorder to treat. I always feel smugly normal when I see people do this. These are folks who wouldn't take the last cookie on the plate, but would take the last lifeboat.
