| | Boscov's filed for Chapter 11 today, and decided to close 2 stores in our area. Mine being one of them.
I never shopped at Boscov's, and now I do, got used to the store, and it is closing.
I'm bummed.

| | They're closing the one near me. I've been in there a few times. The prices just don't compare to the other stores in the same mall. The mall is pretty busy, Boscov's never has been. I'm not shocked that they're closing this store. Unfortunately, Hecht's and Macy's both preceded them in the same mall space. It's not looking good for that part of the mall.

| | I love Boscovs. It is the only RL store I will go to, besides Target.
Register roulette, baybee!
They also have a phenomenal online store which carries *everything*, unlike most department stores that are very choosy about what they offer online. The orders I get online appear to ship from individual stores, but I'm not sure about that.
Anyway, I about died when I heard the news today.....but my Boscovs is safe.
I hope they come out of this okay. I hope they don't get bought up by Federated or something. [gags] Boscovs is a remaining real family owned department store and I luvs them.
edit p.s. our Boscovs is always packed to the gills with shoppers, teeming. That makes it hard for me to shop (do not like crowds!), but I like Boscovs so much I put up with it. The only department store I will go to.

| | The building where our Boscov's is was first a Wanamakers. I was always partial to Wanamakers, having worked for them for many years as a lowly college student, and even after I started teaching--part time.
Then the building became Hechts, then Strawbridges. I loved it as Strawbridges. Then Boscovs. I never shopped at Boscovs and now it is one of the only places I go. The only other departments stores in our mall are Macys, Penneys and Sears. But they are all unique in their own right. I really liked Boscovs. For everything!!!
I am really bummed.

| | I used to interview Albert Boscov all the time for the paper. Also, for a while, Bob worked at Boscov's corporate headquarters and I worked for another company that Albert Boscov helped start a couple of years ago.
In 2005-2006, Boscov's opened 10 new stores. Looks like that wasn't a good time to expand. (Albert Boscov retired from Boscov's right around that time)

I have only been to one once in a mall in PA. I bought a ring there! | There's a culture around Boscov's shopping. It's quirky, and not found anywhere else. Boscov's is *sort* of a discount department store but not *really*.
They run fun promotions frequently. My favorite is register roulette! Once I got 40% off (already great sale prices). It was like going to Atlantic City.
Cracker Jack Days.......and they ran a frequency promotion around the holidays where you could buy cool stuff for $5.00 if you showed up three times a week (or something like that)..... just different.
There's no other store where I can need a fancy dress for a fancy dress occasion and know I can walk out with something I like, that *fits* me, that's a good brand, that was on sale for $50 instead of $150. Walk in, walk out, don't shop anywhere else. I love them!
p.s. my company or anywhere in my area, you say "hey, it's register roulette this weekend" nobody says "where" they say "oh, cool!"

| | I like them because I always find what I need! Clothing, jewelry, housewares, linen--and it is good stuff, and reasonably priced.
I guess I am going to have to go visit Amy more often and go to her Boscovs.

| | Speaking of visits....how would you like the opportunity of a lifetime? The chance to get even with your two youngest? It involves selling them into slavery for a day.
