I thought that it was but my daughter doesn't have parents or any grandparents that are left-handed.

It probably is genetic, but mostly likely a recessive trait.
My DH was born a leftie, but his mom made him change over. He still has trouble with left/right stuff, poor guy.

Neither does Missy. All her parents and grandparents are/were right handed. But....my brother is left handed. Don't know about that.

My dad was a lefty that went to catholic school so he got switched over too, but he's ambi now.
My boyfriend is a lefty too.
I just read that if both parents are lefties there is a 26% chance they will have a lefty, so I don't think it's entirely genetic.
My lefty dad tried to teach me to tie my shoes. Then my righty mom tried too. I'm lucky I ever got the hang of it!
My boyfriend's righty dad taught him and he couldn't tie his shoes forever either. As a kid he finally had a lefty cousin show him how to do it and then he had the hang of it.
Life would be easy if everyone was right handed. It makes sitting at the table in any arrangement you want so much easier! |

No, that's exactly right if it's a recessive trait. You'd have to have one chromosome from each parent to inherit a recessive trait, and that's a 1-in-4 chance based on the possible matchups.

My son is a southpaw, but nobody else in the family on either side has that trait. Where it came from is a mystery.
However, both his father and I have blue eyes. If he hadn't been born with them too I would have had some serious 'splainin' to do.

Sorry em but nope. If both parents are lefties, they would both have two copies of the recessive gene. That would mean a 100% chance of their kid having the gene.
