I teach Science, and I cannot tell you how many parents get upset that I correct the spelling on their children's papers. They claim that my class is not a "spelling" class, so if something is misspelled I should not correct it.

Oh my. I hate to think that if I dropped dead they would write "she spelt rong" on my tomb stone!!! Surely I must be known for more than just lousy spelling!!!
And for what its worth, I spell all the words noted in the article correctly.
Also for what its worth, while I think that some people are a bit uptight about spelling mistakes, I do expect it to be taught in schools, and I do think students should be expected to check spelling. | |
