Ten things I learned on my trip to see my sister in Whistler, B.C.
1) Celcius to Farenheit = degrees in celcius times 1.8 plus 32.
(OK, I knew that, but it is really ingrained in my head because of number 2)
2) 24 degrees C is the average high in August in Whistler, B.C. (It was 34 degrees C on one day)
3) Ice skating in August only costs 2.50 for 2 hours!
4) Lakes that are glacially fed are deliciously cold.
5) There is nary a beaver in the line-up of all the mascots for the 2010 winter olympics. But, there is a marmet that looks like a beaver sans buck teeth. There is also a sasquatch, some weird part bear, part orca creature and a flying bear like creature. All mythical.
6) Though my cousin loathes all things corporate, she has no problem consuming half of a large Boston Pizza when purchased on her behalf.
7) Snowboarders on a half pipe often drop loonies and twoonies from their baggie pants when they sit on the rim, and even in August, a persistent 8-year-old nephew can manage to scrounge up 5 or 6 bucks.
8) My green card is going to expire next year.
9) Cheese rolling is a very funny competition to watch... but who would want to win a roll of cheese that has bounced down a ski hill in 34 C heat?
10) Yes, there is a glacier on the mountain. Yes, it was still hot at 7,000 feet!
