Old and dour my foot.
I know many older nuns from my involvement in the peace movement. Most of them are active and vital and seem at least fifteen years younger than their chronological ages.
When we had our fifth year anniversary vigil of the war, one sister, age 92, insisted on coming. She stood the whole time--at least 45 minutes, carried placards, etc.
They are intelligent--most hold advanced degrees. They have had active careers until well into their seventies, and continue to serve on boards and within their convents. They are generous and joyful and prayerful and some of the most inspirational people I know. |
