And Tom, I am very fearful of hitting one with the car! We haven't had any close calls yet, but you see enough dead deer on the side of the road to know that it's not uncommon. That would be horrific!! |
I've hit two.
One was in ND (my dad teased me that it was the only deer in ND and I killed it). I was alone and I pulled over to a rest area - it was very late at night and I called the Highway Patrol. "Barney Fife" finally showed up, examined the front of my car and stated "no parts" and I nearly threw up.
The second time Bree was in the car with me. It was icy, and the deer just sort of bumped my car (we weren't going fast) and ran off. The car went into a spin, and Bree was holding a cookie in her hand, which flew up and hit the windsheild. She started crying about the cookie.

The car ended up in the ditch and Dan had to drive it out.
Deer in the backyard are very relaxing and pretty.

I have a friend here in NE who frequently has several who come to "visit"...they look in the windows at us sitting around! Probably thinking "hum, who's in the cage now?"
