An acronym I heard used in a radio commercial this morning.

Oh heck . . .you guys are all too ol . . .err, wise in the ways of the world.
So why would a modern day business invite the listeners to their radio commercial to send in a SASE to get some recipes..?? When they have a website and all the modern-day trappings of e-commerce and promotion..??
Maybe to draw in all those Iowa grandmas and grandpas..??
I just found it so quaint, so . . .anachronistic to hear it on the radio. Or anywhere for that matter.
When was the last time you heard it used, or read it..?? Maybe I am just too disconnected from the old ways.

I usually see it for things like buy an item/send in bar code/get an item things, like recipe books or such for buying baking stuff, but it's really rare now.
However, if the station caters to an older generation, or the item they're giving away skews older, they may do the SASE thing because they know X percent of their listeners don't use the Internet. In a given (RL, not on-line  ) community, there's a lot of folks who don't have computers or Internet yet. My church skews older and out of 8 people on the pastoral nominating committee, two have no computer access unless they take public transportation to the library and get someone to show them how to surf the web (unlikely).

PS and rural Iowa may not have good Internet connectivity, so getting to the website to download or otherwise access stuff may not be that practical.

yeah, that "slower" issue is what I meant. I know when I had dial-up, I had less patience with graphics-laden sites that some manufacturers hade

A lot of people out there (including those under 25) do the freebie thing, requesting samples of things all of the time. Periodically, you run across sites that offer samples, but you have to send a SASE. |

I do, and I think anyone over 20 would (Since the internet has really only taken over since the 1990s). Which is probably most of the "18 and up" demographic you'd need for a promtion that doesn't start with "get your parents permission." |
