| | Hannah is Headed This Way | | US East Coast braces for Tropical Storm Hannah - Yahoo! News
Long Island news outlets are abuzz with storm alerts, warnings, precautions, preparations, etc. I'm likely to have some serious flooding in my area, no leaving home tomorrow afternoon (high tide is 1:15pm and they're predicting storm surge of 5 feet). Hopefully electricity will stay going.
Everyone else on the East Coast battening down the hatches?

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | She is supposed to get here tonight, and do her thing tomorrow and tomorrow night. As my favorite forcaster said, Saturday will be craptastic.

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | They let him say "craptastic" on tv?! LOL
I'll bottle some water tonight, already got vodka and a couple flavors of wine and some Bailey's, I buy my batteries at BJs so I have a ton, and I just have to remember to charge the cell phones.

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | Hmm... I haven't done anything. I missed the news tonight so hopefully it wasn't gloom and doom. Last I heard it was going to rain all weekend and we could have "gusts" up to 45 mph. I'm not really sure what if anything I should be doing. No one made a big deal about it on tv today, and in today's paper (which was updated online this afternoon) they still weren't calling off the outdoor festivities.
Some part of me wanted to stop and get bread on my way home, but it's really a pain in the butt and hopefully the storm will miss us. I'd rather just go grocery shopping on Sunday like I planned initially.
I have water and flashlights that wind up as well as battery flash lights with batteries. We've never lost power here, I am sort of curious if we can. |

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | My children have informed me that they are out of batteries for the Wii and they are going to raid the flashlights.
Don't worry, I stopped them.
I don't know what kind of girl scouts they think they are.

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | Well, we've got the humidity. something like 88% and rising. No rain yet. I sure do hope we don't lose our electricity.

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | We will almost certainly lose power at some point -- not because of the storm, but because people here in MD can't seem to drive when the sun is shining, much less in any kind of bad weather. They also can't seem to stay home OR slow down in bad weather.
Should be interesting. Good news is that there are hundreds of out of state electrical workers headed here just in case someone slides off the road or a tree drops on a power line.
We had folks from WAY out of state on our street after one blizzard. We made a point of thanking them for coming and offering them coffee -- which they didn't need, because they had the biggest coffee thermos I'd ever seen. I guess they must travel a lot in the winter.

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | So far we've had a little rain. Bob went out earlier to take Matthew to karate and to buy some milk because Rob drank it all while we were gone. He says people out there are totally nuts, but that's not new, that's MD. Or maybe they're worse than usual for a Saturday. I wouldn't know.

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | Stores were packed here too. Nothing yet but wind, although I hear Atlantic City is getting pounded. NYMets game was cancelled.

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | Well, went out to get batteries for the Wii, milk and toilet paper because we happened to be out of it and got a great deal on Dole fruit cups at Mars (1.49 for a four pack!) Then swung by McDonald's so I wouldn't have to do dishes and picked up oldest daughter's friend. Noticed we'll have to clean the gutters. Basically, it's your typical rainy day in Maryland.

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | Alternating hard rain and no rain here in MA. No wind, really. It wasn't good weather to be out, but people staying home meant I could quickly get some errands done, like an oil change.
Of course, the market is busy because milk, bread and eggs are a must whenever there's a storm. Apparently, a lot of people make French Toast when it rains and snows. |

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | We have had a light rain all day. We have been watching movies, and I have been doing schoolwork. I also roasted a chicken earlier in case we lose power, we can still have dinner.

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | We had a few gusts of wind and enough rain to dampen the top layer of soil, but not really enough to impact the near drought conditions here. Maybe we'll get about as much from Ike. We can hope, anyway.
At least the power didn't do more than flicker - yet.

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | Hanna has left the Philadelphia area. Thank you very much. But honestly she wasn't as bad as we anticipated.
Now Ike looks like another story. The gulf again.

| | Re Hannah is Headed This Way | | Yesterday was yucky but not terrible.
Very humid. We went out to breakfast, ran some errands, went to an indoor jewelry show, picked up Kevin's Mom and went to the outdoor Irish festival. Many of the acts we wanted to see no-showed, so it got a little boring. The 30 minute shows got stretched to 1 hour and 1.5 hour shows... that's a long time to listen to bagpipes.
Eventually it was obvious that all of us were bored with what was on stage, so that's when we left. As soon as we got to the car, the down pour began!
We went over someone's house for dinner, and it was very rainy and windy, but not enough to cancel. When I came back and walked Mimi you could tell she was scared, and she did not pee Instead, I stood around out there and got soaked for nothing. My raincoat protected my torso, and my wellies protected my feet, but my jeans had me soaked to the bone |
