Meanwhile AP says Houston is planning on "facing down" the storm.

At least people can be better prepared than they were back in 1900 in Galveston.

We're actually talking about this in a homeschool Current Events class today. Last minute fill-in, I hope we do okay.

People can get out. I worry about the livestock and other animals.

There is one nice thing about a snow storm. Staying home is the right thing to do.

I know, Lynn, during the Teton Dam flood (yeah, I know you've never heard of it but it was a big deal here 30 years ago) the livestock loss was devastating. My uncle lost his two horses and all his cattle. They aren't just animals to these small farms they are like family. Losing their home was nothing like losing the horses.

They actually think that staying in Galveston could be a deadly decision, and they're asking people not in forced evacuation zones NOT to leave so that those who must can. The wind should not be that horrific with this storm, but the storm surge will be - Galveston may be under water, so they need people away from the shore to stay put so that the coastal and island residents can flee.
