| | Another reason why the current bowl system is awful... | | And no, I am not talking about the fact that it is 34-0 in the second quarter of the national championship. It is something more fundamental than that.
I turned it to the game and said "I guess I should watch some of this, it is the national championship, after all".
My wife, who never watches football, saw the rose on the middle of the field, and said "This is the Rose Bowl?" I said "Yep". She said "on a Thursday night? What are they thinking? Isn't that supposed to be played on New Year's Day, after the Rose Parade?"
I said, "Yep".
If my wife knows how it should be done, that is a real tradition, and this bowl holds no aura for me. Pac 10 v. Big 10 - on New Year's day. That is what the Rose Bowl is supposed to be. |

| | Heh. All I can say is that maybe Oregon shoulda played in the national championship. These guys looked impressive during the Fiesta Bowl when they routed Colorado (the same Colorado team who trounced Nebraska).
Still, I have to wonder how the hell Oregon gave up 49 points against a mediocre Stanford team?
Back to the Rose Bowl update, it looks like Nebraska is slowly clawing its way back. They scored two unanswered touchdowns... Can they keep up the momentum?

| The answer was: NO
Muwahahahahah
What a joke. The Vikings would have looked better against Miami.

Stanford was far from mediocre, and 14 points from an undefeated season (prior to a miserable bowl showing, of course). |

I can't tell you how odd it is to watch the Rose Parade and NOT head down to the Rose Bowl after that.
Apparently many people feel the same way. There was an article about it in my local paper yesterday. |

I went to the Rose Bowl two years ago, and even though Stanford lost that game, and even though this game was for some ballyhooed national championship, the BCS just seemed to cheapen it.
I mean really, this is a bowl that was the last to accept a sponsor, and when it did, it used the "presented by" moniker. It is a shame that it now sold out in another way. "Grand-daddy of them all" indeed.
Ths should have been (and in years past was) an Orange Bowl game. | | |
