the pair skating where the girl's foot was broken? I missed the beginning of that. How did she break her foot? How long has it been broken? The pair stunk in general, but you gotta admire the guts it must have taken to do those jumps and throws with a broken foot!

Apparently both of them teach skating in PA somewhere. After practice, the girl was stepping off of some kind of mat with her students and tripped, breaking her foot in two places. I think this happened a week or two ago. Olympic officials allowed her to pump it with morphine, but she refused, saying she wouldn't be able to "feel the ice."

Ouch!!

I am amazed at the number of people with fractures, recently healed wounds, etc., who are skating and otherwise competing in the games. I guess it is only once every four years, so you do what you've got to do.

You're right, Amy: the pair (from Uzbekistan, I believe) pretty much stunk. But notice how tenderly the teevee cameras caressed her face, especially in the moments before the music began.

"Camera #2, go in tight--real tight--no, tighter--we gotta get the grimace. She is gonna grimace, isn't she? No? Oh, okay then, we gotta capture the stoicism. Yeah, bravery, grit, determination--it's what these Olympics are all about. So they can't skate worth beans. Who cares? This is Great Television!"

Sorta like the ultra-tights on Jamie Sale's face during the medals ceremony. The camera caught every single tear.
