Am I the only one not jazzed about the olympics

Maybe it's me, but I am finding the Winter Olympics to be passe. I haven't watched a single minute, nor have I even desired to (except the 10 minutes of Dave Matthews Band during the highlight show, which I didn't miss.)

I'm a sports fan, I really am. Is something wrong with me?

Nope, nothing wrong with you. As I said in another thread (about "olympic" snowboarding), I think they just happen too often to get excited over anymore - they are becoming over shown and passe. I miss the strict "Every four years, no exceptions" format. I dislike seeing them every two years - yuck. I won't watch. The commentators don't help, nor does the politic-ing. They were also better on their old network.

And yes, I am a sports fan and participant...

I'm actually finding this year's olympics to be highly more enjoyable than those of past years.

I think NBC is doing a great job with their coverage. No stupid biographical, tear-enducing stories this time. It makes the whole thing a lot more tolerable and... dare I say it? Enjoyable.

I'm getting a bit jaded.

I've seen too many.

Kind of lost its excitement for me.

(There was a time not too long ago when I would watch every minute I could.)

Don't even turn it on now.

Rich

The only Olympic coverage I have seen is the advertisements when I have been watching the news before going to work in the morning!

I have not been much into the Olympics for years, since I was a teenager.

Then, I became a bit miffed at all of the reports of drug use by contenders, and bad judgement calls, and top it all off the Nancy Kerigan fiasco.

I never recovered!

Hmm, any time I've tried to watch "the Olympics" I've only seen countless commercials. Margaret doesn't watch commercials, especially ones that seem to be strung together in thirty-minute stretches. No Olympics for me.

And no, the Olympics aren't special any more at all. Just a bore with a lot of commercials.

It depends on what TV channel you're watching. Or a country. I think I'm blessed in terms of lack of commercials.

I had a blast during halfpipe and am really looking forward to snowboarding tonight. I would've enjoyed figure skating but due to certain things I can't. Though it amuses me greatly.

A lot of events get filtered, but I mean, I'm not into downhill anyway. However, you can't get in my way when I'm watching biathlon, cross country, snowboarding, figure skating, and such.

In retrospect...

I'd say whether or not your "jazzed" about it, most Americans probably were as will be evidenced by the ratings.

Frankly, if the Olympics weren't televised I'd not shed a tear. I got sat down on the couch and forced to watch the *&^% ice dancing and being told how beautiful it was.

I didn't see it as beautiful. I consider it as beautiful as watching televised gold-panning... something I would do only under the threat of bodily harm.

Well, considering the muckup job the IOC has done regarding drug-testing for the last 20 or so years, I can see not being particularly impressed.

Ben Johnson lost his Gold medal because somebodies pee showed drugs. Unfortunately they did such a bad job keeping track of who's fluid was who's, that it might have well been someone elses.

With just about ALL the atheletes using various drugs at some point in their career, the TV coverage being pretty spotty, controvery over bribes for selecting the city and pressure on the judges to weight their scores (and just shoddy scoring systems...can't give A a perfect score because what if the next person does better) it's not too surprising that some people aren't turned on by the whole idea. And Winter Sports are sorta inaccessible to many.

They want to sell it as hard as they are, they need to clean up their act, quite a bit, IMHO.
