| | One of our front desk guys quit, he got a full ride scolarship to go to school and play baseball and I can't blame him.
The Op's manager hired a new guy, and had him come in Friday to start training with the front desk agent who has been there about 4 years. Now, I'll be fair, this particular front desk person bugs me. She's a self-centered pain in the you-know-where and I find myself biting my tongue regularly when I have to work with her.
So, she's training about proper check-in and is going over putting in addresses, and I mention that my big pet-peeve is missing addresses, so co-worker number one-let's call her "H" starts telling a story about an old front desk agent who used to manage to check people in without actually checking them in, and tells our new co-worker that "for the first two weeks don't worry about getting the address in"
And then she says " but after that, if you don't do it right Fridai puts on her "wicked witch face"
I'm not sure what she said after that because my head nearly exploded. I have a very expressive face and I'm sure the look I gave her equaled my "wicked witch face"
And I'll be having words with the Op's manager regarding this.
I had to bite my lip, if we hadn't have had a new employee I'd have read "H" the riot act.
I have decided that I need a job where I do not interact with co-workers. Guests I can deal with, Co-workers I cannot.

| | Re When Co-Workers Attack | | Wow. That was certainly uncalled-for. Nothing like giving you a bad rep with the new guy on the first night. Maybe he'll see it as it is - the front desk person training him is a ditz who makes inappropriate comments.

It probably backfired on her. If I were the new guy, I'd see that she is rude!! |

| | Re When Co-Workers Attack | | I've tried calming down about it, but this woman and I have a pretty nasty history together, and she's been written up for talking about co-workers inappropriately before. She's the one who when the Gm and the DOS left for the day, she jumped on the only computer with internet access and spent an hour or more researching vegas casions for her wedding. Then she spent time CALLING them for info while I was on the desk by myself. No one wants to work with her, the youngster who's leaving made a comment about how glad he is that he won't have to deal with her anymore.
both she and the new guy are in at 11 monday, the ops manager isn't in until 11am tuesday-so this should be interesting.

| | Re When Co-Workers Attack | | maybe Alice has a sister? This woman-she's applied for the AGM possition and been turned down, she has learned how to do some of the management stuff-so she is constantly offering to "help" do things-and ends up with five things to do and maybe maybe she gets three done.
Like TA com. research. She's got her own box on the wall, but it fills up with the faxes from travel agents and she doesn't get it done. So I end up doing it.
she sits at the Op's managers desk to eat her lunch, she uses the sales co-ordinators computer to research her vegas wedding.
she takes 15 five minute cigarette breaks a shift, but never takes a "lunch".
she has a 13 month old that she is obsessed with. Now, everyone has wonderful beautiful special babies but she really and honestly believes that HER child is better than every other baby on the face of the earth, she has brought her child to staff meetings, because and I quote "I'm sure everyone would want to spend time with xxx because she's so perfect". She didn't get the hint when everyone moved to the opposit side of the room -she got up and moved and half the meeting was spent with her chasing her child around the room.
I finally got her to stop talking to me in baby talk. She has a very high pitched whiney voice as it is-finger nails down a chalkboard.
What makes it really horrible-we're both about the same shape and size and coloring-her hair is a bit redder than mine is, but we look enough alike that people confuse us. Which makes me want to scream bloody murder.
oh and she spends 1/2 her shift playing Pinball on Windows.

| | Re When Co-Workers Attack | | "Alice" called in "sick" again today. She was "sick" yesterday too. Two weeks ago, she was out "sick" all week. Last week she was on vacation. The Front Desk Manager is still training the girl who replaced the first shifter who just transferred to Audit with me. The Manager's been on the front desk almost constantly this month.
Today he asked me if I'd ever seen Groundhog Day.
And he still won't let me have a taser.

| | Re When Co-Workers Attack | | I'm sorry eris, there should only be one "alice" in the world-it's not fair we both get one.
I'm having more fun this week, annoying the new guy. If I touch the computer screen he wipes it off, he wipes the counters constantly and gets p*ssy if you tell him what to do or how to do things. He's good, smart, catching on quickly-but he's too "finicky"
we had a talk about assigning rooms. he was going to put a single woman on the 1st floor, I made him choose another room. He told me"I asked her and she said she didn't HAVE a preference" I told him, most women don't feel safe on the first floor so out of courtesy put them higher up. we had a long talk about upselling-don't give away the buisness suites, charge more for them ect... and do NOT unless absolutly necessary assign the better rooms to group bookings.
He didn't like being told what to do. Here we go again....

On one of my recent trips I was in a hotel with exterior, not interior, hallways - like a three-story tall motel, I guess you'd say. I was put up on the top floor in a corner, had to walk through the dark parking lot to an underpass at the center of the building to get to the elevator, then over to the room. All I could think was that I was waaaaay, far away from civilization and that I'd be an easy target for a break-in and lord-knows-what, and decided then I wouldn't stay there again. I don't mind the first floor since it's usually convenient to the desk and staff is bustling around.

The windows on the ground floor open at the hotel I work at, so I'd consider first floor less "safe"
in the establishment you described I'd say 2ed floor near the front would be safest

| | Re When Co-Workers Attack | | LOL Fridai.
I have motel-a-phobia from a childhood spent in places with headlights streaming through crappy curtains and no room service. My husband KNOWS my feelings on motels well.
This past December, his company Christmas party was about an hour away. Seeing as we haven't had any time to ourselves, we took the group rate and booked a room at the "hotel" where the party was held. They SAID they had a restaurant, etc. but I never verified room service, which is usually my indicator that I'm in an ACTUAL hotel.
I did a quick check of the web site, which also claims "hotel": http://www.bristolharbour.com/
So why then, did I have to walk from the dining room OUTSIDE THROUGH SNOW to my room, which had a door to the OUTSIDE? Why did I have to drive from the check-in to the room?
It was pretty, and the room seemed nice, but I could not get over the motel aspect. I am now convinced anything that says "Inn" means "motel." |

| | Re When Co-Workers Attack | | Ugh, room assignments. *shudder* That is just about the ONLY thing that I've made it abundantly clear that I won't touch with a ten foot pole. The three of four people I check in a night, no problem (especially since my choices are usually quite limited, not that people checking in at 3am CARE about their choices). But group blocking, house balancing, all that stuff... NO TOUCHIES. You wanna know how they're billing is set up, talk to me. You wanna know where to put them, talk to someone else.

| | Re When Co-Workers Attack | | Eris-you miss all the fun. The people who want free nights because their tub didn't drain fast enough, or the people who get bitten by a bed bug that was apparently brought in by a sports team from Nebraska.
There are at least four rooms in our hotel I will NOT sleep in, for varrious reasons.
This morning, I get a call from the assistant housekeeper-who today was played by the one english speaking Russian room attendent. She wants to know why one room is obviously occupied when it should be vaccant clean. There is luggage inside. and NO record from the day before's checkin regarding room changes. So we have a room, clearly occupied with no info on who's inside. come to find out this is a guest who checked in on the 3ed-and was room/changed, but never actually changed in the computer-which brings up the question-why the heck didn't we catch this BEFORE NOW?
We had a room that was obviously Vaccant Dirty the other day-and again no record of anyone being in the room?
and the new dos accused me of stealing her biscoti( I offered her one of mine and she asked if I'd taken it from her desk) and asked if I faxed a print screen of a reservation to a guest(I didn't I made a copy of the res for HER info not the guests)
