Quick resume question

Okay, I've got hubby's resume all up to date - FINALLY. But a quick question has arisen. What do you do if you've got a job in the middle of your professional experience that has absolutely nothing to do with the job you're applying for (or any job you are ever likely to apply for ever again) but leaving it out will create a big time gap?

DH has just over two years of work, 2001-2003, where he was stuck on a production line. All of his experience before and since is of a more professional level. But to just leave that out because it has nothing to do with what he's going for now would leave a 2 year gap in his record.

So what's better - leave off the stuff that they're not going to be interested in, but risk them wondering what happened in those two years, or leave it in and risk them wondering why he bothered to leave it on there?

Re Quick resume question

Leave it there but downplay it. He can spin it positively in an interview situation.

Why create a suspicious gap when there is none?

What Sara said!
In today's job market, employers understand that things are tough. The fact that he took a job outside his field until he found something in his field shows his good work ethic.
Just don't give as much emphasis to it.

Re Quick resume question

You can also spin it and focus on any job responsibilities that could relate. Any specific teams, leadership roles, training classes (even a ROPES course or something), etc.

Re Quick resume question

Leave it.. I would see it as flexibility.. I see jumps like this all the time and it usually just a reflection on a strong character.
I agree with the 'spin' as long as you don't go overboard. Be honest about your responsibilities with the job. What did he learn from this job? How did it change him? Does he have a new view of the front line employees? Also you learn a lot about lean production working on a line job.
