| | Knock me over with a feather | | I'm stunned. Completely gobsmacked. I just opened my work email and found a very pleasant surprise.
A little background...
I was out of the office on business last Thursday, got home in the late afternoon and checked my email to find an entire thread of cc's of emails between my boss and the company president's secretary.
To make a long, boring story short(er), he was being pressured by the company's owner to come up with an itinerary for entertaining a personal friend that was going to be in New York on vacation and he had to submit it right away (even though the trip was still a month away ).
So he had this brilliant idea to come up with some suggestions and assign me the task of creating a work of art to present to his boss and the travelling friend.
But he needed it by Friday afternoon. Which meant that I had less than a day to put something together that would generally take several days to complete. Oh, and one small detail. I was off on Friday.
To my boss' credit, she fought pretty hard to get the ridiculous task off my plate and got me an extension to Monday (which he forgot was a holiday) and then amended to Tuesday afternoon.
But there was no way that I was going to risk not being able to get it done by starting it on Tuesday. I came in on Friday. At 6:30 am. On my vacation day. On a getaway weekend. When the office was closing at 2 pm.
I managed to get it done precisely as El Presidente was walking out the door at 2:45 and handed it off to him. He was totally blown away.
If I do say so myself, the finished product kicked butt. The man's jaw actually dropped to the ground. And he's about 6'6".
Anyway, I asked him to please review it over the weekend and give me his edits this morning so that I can give him a final. Some of the copy was pretty ballsy (this friend is a foreign stand up comic whose act is all about the differences between men and women and I was giving him a taste of his own ). I was sure he'd slice it to shreds. He didn't change a word.
But that's only the background, not the real story...
Getting to the point, I opened my email tonight to find the following: Quote:
Sara,
I understand you came in on a vacation day to get the Mxxxx Bxxxxx booklet done. Thank you for doing a fantastic job. I loved it all...the copy, the pictures, the humor, everything about it!
I'd like to express the company's appreciation for going the extra mile for us. Dinner is on us..pick a nice restaurant of your choice (make sure you get some good wine or cocktails of course) and send me the bill for reimbursement, up to around $200 is perfectly fine.
Thanks again...and enjoy.

In 11 years with the company I've pulled off many a miracle with nary an acknowledgement. This, to say the least, was unbelievably unexpected.
Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.

| | Re Knock me over with a feather | | Yeah! Sara how wonderful to be appreciated. You rock and what you did was over and above and you and Chip should treat yourself to a really great night out - and make sure you spend the whole $200! |

Good for you and good for the company's owner!

I don't know.
I was thinking Luger because I loathe getting dressed up for dinner. And, Chip lives for steak.
We'll see. Chip's away now, so we have to wait a bit. We're both going on vacation in a couple of weeks, so maybe we'll treat ourselves while we're away. If not, we'll pick a place when we get back.
I'll just make sure that he remembers the offer when I'm ready to take him up on it.
