| | Since I missed whiner wednesday over in H&F, I'm sharing them here....
Occasionally my business brings me into an office. I ran into one my top five office pet peeves this week working out inventory and bookkeeping system kinks for a company here in town... The Employee Who Comes In Contagious And Proceeds To Touch Everything
She had a viral lung thing causing a hacking cough, conjunctivitis and a head cold.
THANKS FOR SHARING - NOT!
I lysoled, I washed my hands in antibacterial soap, I Lysoled some more, I doubled up my vitamin intake all week, and I have two more days left until the job is done. Hope my defense system works. |

| | Too bad you can't just grab something right before she does and the second she picks it up, say something like, "Damn, I'm having a herpes outbreak again!" |

| | I once worked at a job where we didn't have any paid sick leave... just three weeks of "paid leave" total, which NO ONE wanted to waste on being sick. People would come in with 104 temps, etc. I was never so sick in my life as when I worked there. |

| And this coming from someone with small children (aka "incubators"). That says a lot about how people like that effect office productivity. |

| | LOL. The one thing I usually get from the kids that I didn't get there are stomach virii. THAT's the worst. But I think I really upped my immunity working at that job. Between that and student teaching, I'm pretty hardy. |

That says a lot about how people like that effect office productivity. | This is one of the major reasons why Michelle was fired from her previous job. Working at a family practice, you're exposed to everything and she'd get sick (and bring it home so that I'd get sick). The first year that we dated, I had never been that sick in my life.
Anyhow, Michelle got one week of leave per year, no sick time, and if you think someone's going to waste a precious week of leave per year on being sick, well, you're just wrong. So, she'd always show up sick at work and force them to send her home (unpaid, of course, but at least she showed up). This was part of the mentality of their part that she couldn't be counted on. |

| | I keep Lysol wipes at my desk and people usually make fun of me for constantly using them (especially on my phone if people are rude enough to use my phone... I mean, really, they have their own damn phones).
We also have a PTO (paid time off) policy, which is nice in that you get an extra week, but you're all right... who wants to waste it on sick time?

| | Not offering sick leave to people who work in a Doctor's office sounds extremely bizarre to me!

| | My pet peeve: don't come hang out in my office, I don't need or want your company. Also, when you pass my office you don't have to look back to see what I'm doing or feel you have to make a comment. I'm fine, really. If I wasn't I wouldn't be here we get plenty of sick and vacation leave.

| | The only way I can take "sick leave" is if the doctor puts me on quarters. If I just feel off or have something not serious enough to see the doctor about, I still have to go to work--I usually at least get an appointment and am out of the office for a while until the doctor sends me back with a bottle of pills. Then there are the workaholics who never take care of themselves and won't go see the doctor--even when they need to.

| | Yeah, but I've worked for MANY bosses who get pissed off if you take a sick day. Even when you are most obviously really sick. |

| | I send my employees home if they are sick or quarrentine them. But most of us have access from home, so we have no reason to come in if we're really sick.
My pet peeve? Other people's radios. I love music. But hearing Top 40 all day, every day is grating on my nerves. And Bridezilla brought in her engagement photo montage, which is on CD, complete with LOUD rendition of a semi-annoying top 40 song (I can't think of the name, but it's been playing in my brain for the last two days)...and she's had to show EVERYONE SEPERATELY the photos. I think I've heard that song 19 times in the past two days.

| | my boss is absolutly horrible about coming in sick. We try to send him home but he won't go, instead he sits in his office and sounds like a dying seal.
We have one co-worker who, when she isn't calling in sick she's at work complaining that she is sick. She's not, she's just a wining PITA(she's my Alice)
I get the point where I start messing with her and mentioning "people I know of who've died horrible deaths or suffered greatly-all while experiencing the symptoms she's claiming"
I never said I was nice.
I went into work sick last week, after being up at 3am puking. I had to fight to get sent home early, even with a 2ed person there for part of the shift, so I've decided, they can darned well call someone in next time, because I'm NEVER going to work sick again.
