| | Today we were treated to a motivational seminar at the Qwest Center in Omaha. I didn't get to see ALL the speakers (had a dentist appt that had been scheduled for 6months), and some of my notes are in the car so I may miss some of them. State Senator (and former Husker coach and Nebraska god) Tom Osborne (yawn. A couple of good stories, so not a good speaker.) Phil Town, a financial coach who had great advice but then the only way you could use it was to spend $1000 on his software/training/DVD package. Tom Hopkins, a real estate mogul who gave some great sales tips that I can use in my jewelry business. Zig Ziglar, who quite honestly, put me to sleep. Of course, he was right after lunch, but I really didn't get motivated by him all that much. Rudy Giuliani, who was AWESOME. I was so impressed by the man. He talked about his two heroes - Ronald Regan and Martin Luther King...I was surprised, thinking that they are on the opposite end of the political spectrum, but what he admired most about them were their character, not their political views.
I missed Suze Orman, Jerry Lewis and George (from the Apprentice). Would have liked to have seen Orman, could really care less about the other two. I felt seeing Giuliani made it all worth it.
The city of Omaha and the Qwest Center need to do a much better job in traffic control and in getting more places to eat for this type of event. It was pretty bad, but not unworkable.
I haven't been to one of these big hoopla deals before...there was a little too much focus on overt Christianity than I like, but whatever.
Anyone else seen any of these speakers before?

| | I know of the last three only by reputation. Ziglar is supposed to be fantastic, but I've read his work and he doesn't inspire me much either. I think he is one of those people you either really like or pass by. Rudy is all over the map these days. Don't know what he wants to do in 5-10 years, but he's building a war chest to do it. And he'll always have the nation's attention and pride in how he handled post 9/11 New York. |

| | We used Ziglar stuff in trainings all the time - could work if used in the right context and with the right presentation, but I wouldn't want to go to a whole session of his stuff.

| | Ziglar should have been on stage for about 30 minutes. I left after almost an hour and he was still going. It was nice of him to talk about his wife and how supportive she is, but I got real tired of it when he kept going on and on and on.
I guess I just expected more out of him. Maybe it's time to hang up his hat (he's 79 next week)
Heard report from one person this a.m. that Suze Orman was "like a fire and brimstone preacher" I'll have to talk to other members of my team to see what their impressions were.

| | Hi
just came across this posting and wanted to tell you that phil town does give away his advice for free -- he has a blog.
the site won't let me post his URL but if you search for him on google it'll come up at the top.
his book comes out early next year. |

| | Yeah, the advice we got in the session was actually what he has in the book that's coming out next spring...we got a preview. Great advice, easy to use...IF you have access to the web site, which costs $995. If you don't have access to the web site, I think you can probably still use his advice, but it's going to take a lot of time to do the research and keep up with the ups and downs of the market. Need to basically give up your job and become a day trader, IMO.
If there's an easier way (and no, I'm not looking for the "silver bullet"), please share!

I've been reading his site for a while & he did write a post saying his book would show you how to find all the info on the 'net with free tools. Having not seen his book I can't say for sure how long that takes, but he makes it seem pretty reasonable on the blog... there are people who've already been doing it and writing in with results, and they all seem to have full-time jobs. The impression I get is that the tools he talks about in his seminars make it a lot faster, but the impression I get from his site is that either way, tools or no tools, once you learn what you're doing you can spend maybe an hour a week total on the actual buying/selling... I don't know. I haven't tried it myself yet, but that's mostly because i prefer to read how-to stuff in book form where it's all organized in order for me.
Sorry, must insert this dancing banana now. really like the dancing banana. |
