The "I can't believe I did this at work" thread

(OK, in my defense I'm on migraine medicine today.)

Our organization has two offices - I work in the NYC office, others work in Albany. I needed to call the Albany office. Near my phone is a post-it I put up when I first started here that has the NYC office number (I hadn't memorized it) and the Albany office number. I needed to call the Albany office, so I looked at the post-it and dialed and instead of getting the automated answering system, I got a live person greeting me with the organization name.

That's when it hit me that I'd called my own office from my own office.

When the receptionist (who sits about a whole 20 feet from me) realized it was me, she howled so loud I thought someone was going to call the cops.

So, what silly goofs have YOU made recently?

I can make you feel better about that.
CCW2 was trying to call the pharmacy. She was on the work phone and was pissed that nobody was answering. Then her cell phone rang so she hung up, but the cell caller hung up. So she tried the pharmacy again. Guess what. The cell phone rang again.

Re The "I can't believe I did this at work" thread

Today I called a a customer service line, and George answered the phone, only he said he was Joan. He was answering Joan's phone and got his own name confused with hers. Needless to say you could hear the roars of laughter behind him. I told him it was going to be a long time before he lived that one down.

When I called back later he answered George, and I commented that I was so glad he had regained his identity back.

Re The "I can't believe I did this at work" thread

Not on the same theme, but my "I can't believe I did that" recently was something I said to a kid whose behavior has gotten really bad recently. Every time they get in trouble, they have to flip a card. They get turned back every Monday. After four cards, they get a detention. If they flip more than four, they have to put a popsicle stick in their card pocked for each additional time they get in trouble. I used to do two popsicle sticks=another detention, but we've run out of days. So we made a new rule that each popsicle stick means one day sitting by yourself at lunch.

(OK, a lot of background for a simple little story.)

The other day, this kid and I were trying to figure out how many days of "lunch detention" he had left to go, and we discovered that he wouldn't finish until after Christmas. Without missing a beat, he said, "That sucks."

Normally I wouldn't let someone say that in my class, but I thought about it for a second, then said right back to him, "So does your behavior."

That shut him up for a few minutes.

Cindy
