January 12 - The Children's Defense Fund cordially invites you to join Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton & Harry Belafonte For the 2006 Winter Benefit honoring Susan P. Thomases 12:00-2:00 p.m. Luncheon at The Rainbow Room 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
| Apparently someone bought a ticket and now no one can attend, and after spending that kind of dinero on rubber chicken, the Powers That Be decided SOMEONE better eat it!

| | Re Where I Might Be Having Lunch Tomorrow | | That sounds fabulous. Even if you don't espouse their political views, it's really interesting to hear famous people (like Hillary) speak in person.
Have fun! When do you find out for sure if you get to go?

| | Re Where I Might Be Having Lunch Tomorrow | | Celebs: HRC, Harry Belafonte, Marlo Thomas, Cindy Adams (probably only known to NYC folk), Susan Sarandon
Room: OMG what a view. Central Park was all brown, though - wrong time of year to see the park. Somewhat 20's decor, but a lot looks like it was updated over the years. Not very impressive.
Food: Salad of beets and asparagus (sorry Wormie) with goat cheese; sea bass alla carlina; three types of sorbet served in a dark chocolate shell the size of my hand with fresh berries and mint leaves; and a tiered tray of little cookies, eclairs, and other finger-food dessert-type thingies. And a glass of wine.
And yes, I'm back at the office

| | Re Where I Might Be Having Lunch Tomorrow | | The X and I went to the Rainbow room for our 2nd wedding anniversary. The room then was so so, but it was a fun elegant night with great food and dancing. I wore a long dress - he wore his tux. The waiters took photos and pampered us. Then my MIL opened the camera and exposed all the film.
Oh well.
No beets and asparagus though. What a waste of goat cheese. So was it fun? |

| | Re Where I Might Be Having Lunch Tomorrow | | I happened to think the salad was very tasty
It was very nice. The Children's Defense Fund was holding the event as both a fundraiser and an awards ceremony, giving Beat the Odds awards to some kids who managed to pull themselves together (with help from other-than-family adults, for the most part) despite some pretty horrible situations. These are the teens who statistically should be in jail, pregnant, unemployed, and uneducated. One is interning at an architecture school, another is self-supporting and is a volunteer companion to an elderly woman, all five are going to college - it was really touching. Reminds me why I'm in the business, since it would have been very easy for these kids to go downhill and stay downhill. Of course many, many do go downhill - these five were luckily found and helped in time.

| | Re Where I Might Be Having Lunch Tomorrow | | I saw 'em all when they came in - at one particular place the press was standing and had each stop for their pictures. Harry Belafonte really really does look just like my FIL Didn't ask for autographs or try to chat, though.
