Last night, I was covering a police commission meeting in which there was a tie vote. The commission is made up of 3 members each from two municipalites. They each get 2 votes all the time. Every 100 days, the tie-breaker vote rotates between municipalities.
When they hit a 3-3 vote last night, they needed to know whose turn it was to vote. They didn't know. They reached a compromise, but after the meeting, I talked to the solicitor and told him it would be a simple thing for me to quickly calculate.

Actually, it sounds like not having a tie-breaker vote is a good thing - forced them to reach consensus.

Funny thing is, it ended up the same way it would have if they had known the tie-breaker. Ain't life grand?
