I was talking to the band teacher today (the girl is in band) and she said that the mom said she didn't want the girl to compete for chairs. Students challenge each other vieing for 1st seat etc.

Mom has definite issues. Poor kid.

Re Yep! A bad Day

I was just thinking about this the other day. If there is something I consider not to be sinful and someone else thinks it is, then what do I do? I stumbled onto 1 Corinthians 8:8-13 and it helped me think more deeply about it.

Ultimately, I think it is okay for this woman to set her boundaries for herself and her children whether she is truly wrong or right. It's between her and the Lord who will meet her where she is. Your boundary is to set the girl up the best you can with the available materials and your pofessional knowledge.

I think you handled it well, Sandy.

I'm learning a lot by studying these books and their content. That was so funny (the amalah blog)! I checked into sites for Christian reading 7th grade and there were a couple of mainstream books there. A new one called Al Capone washed my shirts might be one I'll run past her.
Haven't read the rest of the thread yet, but I don't know that I'd go with this one because one of the inmates on Alcatraz gets a little too friendly with the mentally disabled sister of the main character. I was actually a little concerned by where it was going while I was reading it.

Re Yep! A bad Day

Sandy I am sorry for not getting here sooner. I have a whole list of novels that I use in 7th grade, for all reading levels that are good, and somewhat middle of the road.
I don't use The Giver--because I don't want to deal with parents. i find that parents love to take a part of a book and blow it out of content, ruining the story and any literary value.
I myself didn't like The Outsiders, however in my experience the kids love the book. It is on our Reading Olympics list, which comes from the state--so it is an acceptable book for middle school. This lady was blowing wind, so to speak.
