| | New Business Term of the Day | | Psychographics.
a way to categorize people by thought processes, mindsets, etc.; combination of "psychology" and "demographics".

| | Re New Business Term of the Day | | This would be THE perfect seminar for that. It's about branding/marketing nonprofit organizations using data and technology... so there's the for-profit business management and leadership terms, the non-profit feel-good terms, the data management terms, the technology terms, the marketing terms... a wealth of paradigms from which I can learn to think outside the box, push the envelope, develop brand awareness, deal with stovepiped information systems, all in an environment of leadership trends and changing enduser needs while maintaining legacy systems.

| | Re New Business Term of the Day | | Ow. You are making my head hurt.
My boss was giving me a quarter for every time we'd hear or see the word "directionally". I was getting stinking rich and she decided we'd better quit before I got any bright ideas about retirement.

| | Re New Business Term of the Day | | Pyschographics has been around for 10 or 20 years at least (Wormie, you're thinking of Colorgraphics, a web site, I think)
I know we were using the term at St. Anthony, and I left there in 1997. I'm pretty sure it pre-dates that though. It's a very real, very statistically valid demographic measure (with a little bit of art thrown in...) |

| | Re New Business Term of the Day | | MJ - are you in nonprofit marketing? I am too! Are you taking courses at your local donor's forum or reading a great book that I should pick up? |

| | Re New Business Term of the Day | | T'was a presentation to the annual meeting of Executive Directors. It was done by a vendor who then went on to do some marketing of his own and ticked off a lot of his audience in the process. BUT there was another presentation on nonprofit marketing the next morning, done by a speaker from the Child Welfare League of America, that was much better.

| | Re New Business Term of the Day | | Boy, I hate when the "speaker" turns out to pitch their product. I don't mind a little commercial, but give me something to take home. Glad you at least got something good out of it. Besides Lake George, where it had to be, what, 40 degrees? |

| | Re New Business Term of the Day | | 50's-60's, and most of the rain held off for the last day
What made the vendor's pitch worse was he'd had lunch with an agency IT guy who has been developing software to market for years, and the vendor asked about a third software that's in development at another agency, playing all stupid about it. Then, during the presentation, part of his pitch was a detailed sell on the third software that he'd played so dumb about an hour earlier - with his lunch date in the room getting furious.
