| | of taking a sick day when you have the flu or something like it if your boss calls you at 8:30 in the morning because you have e-mails that need to be addressed?
And why do they have to call on your cell phone and not on your home phone so you have to drag your sick butt out of bed to find the phone to deal with the e-mail problem?
And how many calls will there be?
And do I have to use it as a sick day if I end up working from home?
I just want to sleep. |

| | I should have just gone to work. It's not like they're going to let me sleep.
And to think - at the old job I could have slept at work. Now I can't even sleep at home. |

| | I turned off the cell so he called on the house phone
I called him last night to tell him I was sick, and he asked for my home #. I prefer he use the home number because I can answer that in bed. I keep my cell in my purse.
Argh - he asked a million questions and said "when are you going to be back, anyway?"
I suppose its nice to be needed. |

| | I would turn off the phone ringer while you are trying to sleep. Yes, it's nice to be wanted, but surely you can't even be at your best game when you're sick and groggy. Let it roll to VM and pick it up later.

| | The problem with letting the answering machine get it is that some paranoid bosses would take this to mean you aren't at home and aren't sick at all.

| | When Bob had his bypass surgery, they called him IN THE HOSPITAL.
Yep, once he was out of ICU, they were on the phone with "where is...? How do you....?" on and on. He definitely felt needed. It was a valuable learning experience, though, because he put together an instruction book for them before he retired -- they only called a couple of times after that.

What's the point of having a vacation when your boss calls you on your cell phone and tells you to check your e-mail at least twice a day WHILE YOU'RE ON VACATION?
These days, sick days simply mean you're at home and vacations mean that you're available but won't show up at the office. |

It was a valuable learning experience, though, because he put together an instruction book for them before he retired -- they only called a couple of times after that. | When Michelle was in for her breast-reduction surgery, my bosses kept bugging me and sending customers my way while I was in no proper mindset to take phone calls from customers (nor did I have their cases memorized which my bosses KNEW the customers expected). I was even told to get my @$$ back into work the next day despite already having vacation time set aside for a few days to take care of my wife.
I had to put her in the car and take her to her mother so that someone could take care of her.
I still think that situation was the straw that broke the camel's back and made it really easy to quit. | | |
