My 15 minutes of Fame

Background: Sunday when I got home from church there was a DVD hung on my door. On it were pics of Joseph Smith and the Salt Lake Temple. I knew immediately knew it was anti-LDS "stuff."

I watched the first few mintues of it and then didn't bother with the rest. So today one of my co-workers called and said that a news man was coming to my office today to interview me about the DVD!??

So I just had a 1/2 hour interview with a nice news boy (who is also LDS) about my feelings about the distribution of the DVD.

So I'm on channel 6 tonight.

Yeah. It would have been really cool if I'd have had something intelligent to say.

Hopefully you waved and at least said, "Hi Sandy" or "Hi Mom" if need be
Still, it's interesting stuff and makes life more exciting to have surprises like this.

Re My 15 minutes of Fame

My recommendation:

0) Mention that the DVD was very enlightening.
1) Invite the news boy in.
2) Make sure camera is running.
3) Place DVD in microwave.
4) Turn the microwave on for a few seconds.
5) Watch pretty sparks/lightning
6) Smile for the camera
7) aaaaaand... *scene*

Because a local pastor thinks we are whacked! (And I must say that I don't really blame him.)

He said it was to open up dialogue. But if you want to talk with people pointing out all the ways you think they are wrong isn't the best way to do it.

I think I did pretty good as the reporter kept my part really short and mostly just showed me "working" at my desk! So I was quite pleased, I think I said two lines. The pastor got lots more time but that was okay he did a good job, too!

I thought of a lot of good one-liners after he left. I could have used my
sig line for instance. Duh.

Didn't get in a "Hi, Mom" or anything, Sandy. Dang, she would have liked that, too.

JP! That was very geeky of you.

Re My 15 minutes of Fame

How awful! Margo, that's a terrible thing, to have something like that left on your door. I'm sorry you and your family have to put up with BS like that.

You were just great, though, on that video. You were so calm and direct, you made a good impression. As opposed to the guy with the shifty eyes in the rocking chair. Plus, he said "behooves". I hate when people say that.

Re My 15 minutes of Fame

Oh, don't feel sorry for me. It doesn't bother me in the least. I hope that came through in the video. I know the pastor, too. He's a good guy. It must be very difficult to maintain a congregation where the LDS people are so prominent and probably over-bearing.

I've been reading about the DVD (because I only watched a smidgen of it) at an apologetic website and I must say the most of it is pretty old hat.

Re My 15 minutes of Fame

They probably interviewed other people for the piece and someone else said "insulting" - not that I blame them. Something wrong with your thinking?

I loved your response, though.

Ken Parker, Local Pastor: "If you see that there's a problem in someone's way of thinking wouldn't it behoove someone to say hey, I think you have a problem here...I think it's a genuine concern and love for individuals, to get truth to them."
I checked. According to the internet, the bible's take on this is still what I thought it was:

Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

(Of course, having noted the mote in Paster Parker's eye, I'ma gonna go fishing for one of those beams in my own. I'm betting there's at least a couple.)

Oh, Sandy, that's good you couldn't see me because I was having a serious bad hair day. After seeing it I promptly went down the street and had my hair cut!

It opens up in Window Media Player for me.

And that title should have read 15 seconds of fame. LOL

Oh, gorsh, thanks Pippa and Delia. I don't think I have an accent.

And I wanted to be really positive. Yes, I am miss merry sunshine.

Hey, I figure if you guys let me stick around then I shouldn't be too judgmental of anybody else either.
