Re I love my job....

OMG you comped the rest of the room? If that was MY kid???? I'd be motified. And I'd be leading him down to the desk by his damn ear to apologize to you and any other hotel staff I could find.

Re I love my job....

See, now, my take on it was that the kids' behavior wasn't the parents' fault, and the parents were the ones paying for the room. I was basically (*gasp!*) being nice, because I figured that at the point where the cops lead the kids back to the room, the parents had had such a horrible night that they deserved someone, somewhere being a little nice to them.

I sincerely hope the travel gods have taken their eyes off them. Because they still have that eight hour drive BACK home.

Re I love my job....

Don't care. Child would have apologized. With me hanging onto his ear. And the trollop he brought along with him? OH SWEET JESUS you wouldn't want to be her either.

THE HELL? This one has me in a tizzy. It really does. I'm neither a prude nor a conformist, and that's WAY over the top to me.

Re I love my job....

Frequent parents? I don't know that it will do much good to have comped them the room. They've got to be mortified as well as hugely pissed. They may never want to show their faces there again.

The son and girlfriend certainly owe everyone an apology, but if the parents had real backbones, girlfriend would probably not have been along to cause said scene, so that's not likely to happen.

Yeah, but as an excuse it mollified the boss.

Hee. And I didn't even MENTION the part where the guy, upon seeing the maintence guy, waved and said, "Hi!" to him.

The girl just kinda said, "Mmph," and kept doing what she was doing.

And guys, keep in mind, I save the good stories for you guys. People having sex in semi-public places is pretty mundane at a hotel on third shift. The only reason this one even rated was because of the fuss the parents were making about the sleeping arrangements to begin with.

Re I love my job....

OK, repeat after me.

"Thank you, eris for all the hard work you do to help us not look like ignorant morons who don't give a crap about our work in front of the guests, even though we are ignorant morons who don't give a crap about our work."

Thank you. And, in the future, when I tell you I have fixed your mistakes, you will repeat this phrase. You will not whine that it's not fair for me to fix the work you're too lazy to do properly. You will not complain about how you have been training your people to do the same incorrect functions for the last ten years, and so it's OK for you to allow your people to perform the same incorrect functions, even when it has been explained to you in words of two or less syllables that your training is incorrect and IS CAUSING PROBLEMS. The fact that you ignore people who tell you there is a problem does not mean that there is not a problem.

Thank you, and have a nice day.

Re I love my job....

Dear Management Staff:

I understand that the University encourages a multicultural approach to staffing, and that as a result, we have a wonderful variety of languages spoken here at the hotel. However, I would like to point out that in order to allow for precise and effective communication, we do have to make sure that all staff are literate in the English language. I believe it is particularly important that the native English speakers be literate in this language. In particular, I would urge you to make sure all of your staff are conversant with what is commonly called "the alphabet," especially as concerns its uses in filing paperwork.

To this end, I would like to request one of those punch out alphabets to hang around the back office area of the front desk. Not only would this be a warm and cheering decoration, but it could help serve as a reference for those who get stuck.

If this is not feasible, I would like to encourage you to ask the multilingual staff to work on filing. It seems the native English speakers we hire are simply less conversant with the concept of "the alphabet."

But who knows, maybe if WE hang an alphabet up in the front desk area, it would encourage the banquets folks to do so as well! God knows they need one.

Thank you for your time

Your loving night auditor.
