| | The past three weeks have been pretty stressful. I didn't want to talk about it much because I needed to stick my head in the sand for a while and pretend it wasn't happening.
I started a new job in December as a contractor. In March, they made me an employee. Three weeks ago, my boss called a meeting and told us that the corporate office was having a big meeting in Seattle on July 20 to decide if they wanted to keep our department. Yeah. Sucks, huh?
We worked our butt off getting our stuff ready to demo to the big guns. And, on Thursday my boss and the product manager flew out to Seattle for the meeting. The product manager was supposed to call us or text us with status updates on Friday.
I wasn't horribly worried because there were some good signs before the meeting. But, as Friday wore on and the product manager hadn't updatated, I started to get nervous. No news is bad news when you have a company that might be doing layoffs on Monday.
All day Friday, we waited. I was pretty much ok until we still hadn't heard anything by 6pm our time. My office mate sent a text message to the product manager asking for info. No response.
I went home, and tried to take the girls to the Harry Potter 'party' at Borders. But, the party was lame and I was starting to stress. I felt queasy and miserable. I called my office mate at 9 to see if he had heard anything. Nada. But, he promised he would call me no matter how late to let me know.
I was doing my best to try to stay reasonably calm. After all, it was out of my control. Things have been bad before and I survived.
After 11pm, my office mate called. We were in the clear. Some upper management types in Seattle were not, but we were all fine.
So, I am still employed and quite happy about that fact.

| | Note to corporate America:
Are you wondering why your group health insurance premiums are so high?
Could it be the severe emotional and psychological stress your ways of doing business inflict on your employees?
A little bit of consideration for employees would probably knock those premiums down at least 15%.
I am glad you are safe. |

| | Thanks all I really wish I had the discipline and talent to work on my own. Corporate America keeps putting my stomach in knots. I hate having to depend on people who don't care about me or my family.

We just can't pay you........ | We could have gone with my idea about auctioning off some board members, but NOOOO-OOO. That wouldn't be ethical

But I do know that part of having a successful business is having a talent for self-promotion, and that's something that's hard for many of us to do.
We really need to feel, deep down, that our product or service is absolutely best for meeting the customer's needs--it takes a lot of self-esteem. And we need to price our product or service accordingly.
I have taught piano, and I am not the world's best businesswoman....I tell myself that if I had had to support myself completely I would have been more hard-nosed and bottom line oriented, but I'm not sure if it's true. |

| | I''m glad to hear it's okay-that your job is safe.
I hate the rummor mills that get started in a corporate enviornment, and even worse when the higher ups say "nothing to worry about" typically that means-worry.
