| | Shiny New Titles Everywhere | | As you may recall, the company I worked for decided last July to split off the software division into its own company. All the detail stuff got hammered out, and we software geeks became a new company last week.
Management got together in Atlanta for a meeting with the new investor, the owner, and some other folks. And, it seems that four people got new VP titles. Now, you have to understand I am working for a tiny company. There are 10 of us in Philly, three in Atlanta and one in Florida. So, four VPs is a big chunk of the company. But, you know how it goes when a company wants to motivate people but doesn't want to hand out money. You get fancy titles.
I got my new title today. I am now project manager for the thing I'm working on.
Argh!
This is one shiny new title that comes with a boatload of problems. I am now in charge of the other developer on the project - a guy who has been here way longer than I have. He ain't gonna like this. He has been under the assumption for the past year that I am HIS minion. It's caused some sparks recently because I didn't jump when he made some whimsical demand.
So, lets recap. I lost my bonus (because of the split). I lost four paid holidays (because of the split). I have to pay over $550 a month for health insurance (because of the split and because Verizon is closing down Bob's office). And now I get a shiny new title too. Aren't I lucky?
My suggestion to all of y'all is to buy stock in Exedrin. I'm going to be using a lot of it.

| | Re Shiny New Titles Everywhere | | Yeah. We were all having fun making up titles for our resumes. One of the benefits of working for a tiny startup that could go out of business any day is that you can give yourself way cool titles. Hell, I even get to write that I report directly to the president

Are you kidding? Amy can photoshop with the best of them. If it's one of the things she's working on.
Congratulations Amy on the recognition and may there be a speedy resolution to the other issues.

| | Re Shiny New Titles Everywhere | | The owner sold the company that we used to belong to yesterday. And, then he called each one of us here at the new company on Skype and told us that since we used to be part of that company, we were each getting a surprise check from the proceeds of the sale. I'm using mine to pay off some debts so that when Bob is done with Verizon in January, our monthly expenses will be down a little. I'm going to be good and resist the urge to blow any of it on Christmas.

Will there be any big changes with this sale? I hope that any are positive. |

| | Re Shiny New Titles Everywhere | | I wish you luck with everything. Having a co-worker that feels someone is his minion can go one of two ways, total jerk or fall in step with things.
I hope that it's the later.
