30 years at the same job is enough....

I just had my last day at work.
As a salesperson in a major metropolitan department store, I was recently told that those of us earning 90% or more of our 'cap' would be offered a buy out...a severance package...if we chose to take it.

I thought about it, and decided that I would take them up on their offer. I can get insurance through my husband's company, and now is my chance to take some time off and work on art and look for something else that is NOT SALES.

It's hard to leave a job I have had all of my adult life....but I am hopeful I will find something else I love!

Wish me luck!

Welcome, Sandy

I do wish you luck! It's hard figuring out what it is you want to do, but once you do, I think you will be much happier.

Welcome Sandy!

I think it's great to hear stories about people who stayed with the same company for so long! I'm sure that this is bittersweet, but sounds like you had a good run with them, and now you'll have more time to do things like meet new friends on the web!

Hi, Sandy! I did sales for a while, I was glad to start doing something else. Sounds like you're embarking on a new career phase - how exciting!

Congrats on the change in venue, and welcome to the board!

This is a GREAT time to get out of retail...when I left my retail job (after 15 years) it was right before Christmas and I had the best holiday ever!

Re 30 years at the same job is enough....

Sandy,
My mom retired from teaching after nearly 30 years -- only to take another teaching job. She retired from that one about 5 years later. Now she does taxes for one of the big companies. She loves the change of pace -- and the opportunity to make a difference for people in an entirely different (and less demanding) way.

I hope you find something you love!
