| | I was happily working away at the art show, when two people came up and introduced themselves as the show big shots - really nice folks - and they had a little surprise for me.
I'd taken "Best in Category" for jewelry, based on the photos I had sent in for the jury selection. At 1:00, I was to report to the center stage for presentation of my ribbon, along with the 8 other best in category winner. At that time, they would present the "Best In Show" winners and runners up.
The event coordinator announced our names, and we were all standing in line holding our pretty burgundy colored ribbons. Next up, he announced the Second Runner up, and First Runner up. I stood there clapping for the winners...I'd seen their work and it was fantastic.
Then he announced the Best in Show Winner. Holey carp. It was ME.
I seriously nearly fell over. I got a nice plaque and a cash award. I was Quite Pleased.
Then I hear the GOOD STUFF. I get the primo spot in next year's show, free of charge. I get to have a photo shoot that will be used for next year's catalog cover.
My work will be used for the artwork for next year's T-Shirts that are seen everywhere.
I think I'm still in shock..........

So tell me again when you're quitting the day job to make jewelry your full-time work?

| | LOL Angie, you still know me now!
MJ, I wish....but I still gotta pay the bills. It is a fun dream however!!!
Well, we're off to Day 2. I'm definitely going to scope out the booth of the gal who won last year - she came over and chatted yesterday afternoon. I want some ideas on how to hold down TWO canopies...I get double space next year!!
And I got to meet one of my axe-murdering internet jewelry friends yesterday - she and a friend drove down from Winnepeg to come to the show and we got to talk a little shop. Other than a couple of thunder showers late yesterday afternoon, the weather was perfect - today looks cloudy and cool, but hopefully no rain.
Thanks everyone for the encouragement!!!

| | Hey Lynn, if you really love this, and you *would* like to make this a full-time thing, if only you could pay the bills on it... have you ever thought of getting your items into say... a department store?
I wish I had kept contact with this woman... I knew her from a Louis Vuitton message board. Anyway, she was making jewelry and somehow she got Nordstrom's to pick up HER line! I know the beauty of your stuff is how one of a kind it is, but, maybe this is something that you could think about.
She was still hand making all of her jewelry, afaik. |

| | Well Margaret, if I had the time to do the research I would.
Thanks for the glitter Andrea
Had a tremendous day in sales again today...it was freaking freezing (is it really supposed to be 50 in June, even in NORTH DAKOTA????) and rained this a.m. Jeremy was such a great little worker, I need to remember to pay him.
And I got some neat "souveniers" too...a copper plaque that says "Be the person your dog thinks you are", and some of my yummy Blue Heron soap.
There was a write up in the paper and we got mention...I had a bunch of people come through and say "Oh YOU'RE her!"

| | Oh Lynn, I am so happy for you! I am glad you had a good day too.
It is over 90 and humid here--how about we mix our weather a bit, and we'd both be more comfortable!!

| | Whew. We're home.
Took Jeremy to a "cabin" on Devils Lake and hired a fishing guide for a day. A little pricely, but I have a cooler of fish (yummmm walleye) a sunburn and Jeremy's got a lot of great memories. No internet access at the cabin, which is not such a bad thing for a short period of time. We had some of the best ribs I've ever eaten at the dive bar/restaurant within walking distance.
Making plans for next year already....I have a lot of ideas that I need to bounce around!!!

| | Lynn, congratulations - this is so well-deserved. You have so much talent.
Jeremy will have so many good memories of his fishing day. That was an awesome thing for a mom to do.
