Are we having fun yet?

God this year has been so sucky. We're a crew (at work) who knows how to have a good time but.......everybody is just brittle. It's easier to have fun when things are going well.

Are you having fun at work?

I need to remember to *laugh* more. I was very good at this for awhile but have lost it in the tensions of this stooopid, stoooopid, stooooooooopid year.

Re Are we having fun yet?

I am much better now that I am "upstairs."

Downstairs seems to be slightly better than it used to be, but still very catty.

When things got especially bad at work, I would suggest a day for everyone to bring in food. It was a little like a bandaid, but it did help. There's something about sharing and eating that brings out a little good-will and community spirit.

The great minds at work decided to do a cost-cutting measure and ended one of our best things for moral -- pizza day. The last friday of every month the company bought pizzas for everyone. Then it became a cake, to save money. The cake celebrated everyone who had a birthday that month. Then we were "too big" so they stopped that. Now we have to make our own morale boosters.

One thing we do upstairs is birthdays. My birthday is Tuesday, but I have Tuesday off. The people upstairs will either celebrate my birthday today (last day I work before my birthday) or Wednesday (first day back). The person with the last birthday does the organizational work. They send out an email to everyone upstairs saying "I will buy a cake, flowers, and a card. If you would like to give money towards these purchases, or bring anything, please let me know." Everyone chips in a few bucks (usually about 5) towards the purchases. Everyone also brings in something to eat. We usually have bagels, cookies, chips and salsa, etc. Since it's my birthday this time, I will host the next birthday. It's nice.

Re Are we having fun yet?

I am such a scrooge, I hate (benignly) the birthday fuss......but my people are good about taking care of one another. I don't think there is anything systemized like you describe, but there is always fanfare on somebody's birthday.

'cept mine. I do not want confetti sprinkled all over my desk, thankyouverymuch.

Besides birthdays, though, I've been pretty good the last few years at having fun and laughing a lot with people. Last six months, notsomuch.

I sent the "that's how i roll" comic I posted in the water cooler here to about six people who could handle the word "motherfucker". That was fun 'cause nobody expected it coming from me.

MOAR FUN. That's my goal. MOAR FUN!
